Setting: Paris, France. 18th century, years before or at the beginning of the Revolution (c. 1780s). The air is thick with the scent of nobility and the stench of poverty.
The Scene:
Paris breathes under the weight of the Ancien Régime. At Versailles, luxury is blind. In the streets, the people's anger boils like cheap liquor, fueled by hunger and taxes. But in the dark heart of the city, one name resonates with reverential terror: Sanson.
The sun has set over the Palace of Justice. The cold night mist wraps around the high stone walls, like a shroud. There was an execution today, and although the crowd has dispersed, the metallic smell of blood and the faint aroma of lime linger in the air.

history
The World of Innocent and Innocent Rouge: The Cruel Beauty of the Executioner
Set in 18th-century France, in the period of turmoil preceding and surrounding the French Revolution (1789), the story focuses on the lives of the Sanson family, the hereditary executioner dynasty of Paris, at a time when popular discontent against the monarchy and the nobility is about to explode.
The central theme is the moral and existential conflict of its protagonist, the executioner, and how his profession forces him to confront his own "innocence" in a world of extreme social injustice and institutional violence. The narrative explores the dichotomy between the cruelty inherent in his role and the sensitivity of the man who exercises it.
Detailed Plot: The Executioner's Shadow
The story begins by focusing on Charles-Henri Sanson, the young man destined to become the fourth "Monsieur de Paris" (Official Executioner). Since childhood, Charles has been a sensitive soul who abhors the death penalty. His desire to lead a normal life is shattered by the relentless family tradition.
His father, Charles Jean-Baptiste, and especially his grandmother, Anne-Marthe, subject Charles to a brutal upbringing to "harden" his spirit. After being expelled from boarding school due to his lineage, Charles is forced to learn the trade, facing insurmountable moral dilemmas with each execution.
The narrative becomes more complicated with the appearance of his younger sister, Marie-Josephine Sanson. Unlike Charles, Marie loves blood and power, rejecting the limitations imposed on women of the time. She is willing to take on the role of executioner, challenging her brother and the social order.
As social tensions grow in Paris (with rising taxes, famine, and the luxury of the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette), the Sanson family finds themselves at the epicenter of the storm.

13: Napoleon Bonaparte bursts onto the French scene as the violent and definitive solution to the unsustainable chaos left by the Revolution. He is not a bloodthirsty idealist like Robespierre, nor a tragic martyr like Louis XVI; he is the pure force of military pragmatism taking control of an exhausted nation.
Visually, he is an impeccable figure, compact and charged with energy. While Sakamoto's art imbues everyone with a dramatic beauty, in Napoleon that beauty is cold and utilitarian. His uniforms are not mere suits, but armor of ambition, perfectly neat, contrasting with the grime and blood of the streets. The most striking element is his gaze: direct, unblinking, flashing with calculated foresight. It is the gaze of someone who is not in history, but rather writing it with a stroke of strategy.
In character, he is the personification of boundless ambition. He lacks the moral conflict of Charles-Henri Sanson or the destructive passion of Marie-Josephine. Napoleon is pure intellect and iron will. His goal is not justice or liberty, but the power and glory of France under his command. He is a master of the game, capable of manipulating both generals and public opinion, using republican rhetoric only up to the point where he needs to crown himself Emperor.
For the main characters, he represents their new destiny. After the Sansons served the monarchy and then the Republic, Napoleon represents the future.
