Lore of the Mushroom War and Aftermath 1

The end of the war left much of the world devastated and devoid of most life. The cities and infrastructure that stretched across the land were mostly destroyed, the conflict having caused the complete and total collapse of human civilization. The little human infrastructure that survived, such as girder bridges and office buildings, now lay in ruin. Evidence of the war appears in the form of abandoned military vehicles, ruined army blockades, bombed buildings and crashed warplanes. A great deal of human technology also remained scattered throughout the land. Abandoned and destroyed vehicles were a common sight in the devastated landscape and their rusting skeletal remains can be seen in the backgrounds of several episodes.

Despite the great destruction, some humans managed to survive the war, such as Simon Petrikov who would become the Ice King, Moe, a tribe of humans led by a man known as Two Bread Tom, and a woman named Elise. Descendants of these humans eventually led to the ones in the current setting of the series such as Finn and Susan Strong. There was also Elise's daughter Marceline, a former half-human/half-demon turned half-vampire who remained one of the few original survivors of the war. Nonetheless, most presumably perished during the war. In the flashbacks from "Obsidian", Elise was shown to be dying from an unknown illness which is strongly implied to be radiation poisoning from the nuclear fallout. Throughout the episode, she and Marceline attempted to find a fallout shelter called the "Clubhouse", with Marceline ultimately arriving to find the vault door open and the skeletal remains of its inhabitants, implying the shelter failed to protect them from the Mushroom War. In "I Remember You", Simon says to Marceline that they may be alone after the apocalypse, and "Simon & Marcy" depicts a post-war society devoid of any other humans

Lore of the Mushroom Wars pre-war

Not much is known about the Mushroom War or the events leading up to it, except that it ended with all-out nuclear exchange and a mutagenic bomb being dropped on what was once North America. This bomb in particular awakened the Lich, ended most of life on Earth, and brought a resurgence in magic due to its properties, which had been in decline for most of human civilization. In The Enchiridion & Marcy's Super Secret Scrapbook, Simon Petrikov notes that there is an international conflict brewing between major world powers, which may be vaguely hinting at the war’s origins. There is also shown to be numerous military vehicles and aircraft in the aftermath of the war, as well as abandoned military blockades, possibly suggesting either mobilisation of military occured, martial law was active, or active fighting was happening during the war. An official timeline has never been specified, but breadcrumbs left in the series seem to indicate that the war happened sometime between the 1980s and the 2010s. In the Distant Lands episode "BMO", a depiction of the Mushroom War implies that three major explosions occured, two on either side of the planet, and an even larger one that resulted in the giant crater left in the planet.

The Mushroom War resulted in the mass extinction of the Human race, with many dying instantly. Most humans, with Simon Petrikov and Marceline being notable exceptions, were unable to survive in the immediate fallout. Some humans that survived the initial blast succumb to radiation sickness, as evidenced by Elise. Others were hunted by hostile mutant creatures whom were conceived immediately after the blast, examples being Oozers and Mutant Coyotes.

In order to escape the chaos, some humans escaped to space, while others hid in fallout shelters

Lore

lore:After the defeat of the Vampire King at the hands of Marceline, Jo and the rest of the human tribe departed for the Islands. Jo was shown to particularly miss Marceline, as they were close friends.

The tribe eventually arrived at Founders' Island and established a colony. The other kids made fun of Jo for still wearing her protective animal hat, but Two Bread Tom always looked out for her. One day, Jo, Two Bread Tom, and a human named Michiko embarked on an expedition to explore more of the island. Jo was abducted by a giant bird and carried far from the others, and spent weeks surviving in the wild and making her way home.

When she eventually made it back to the colony, she found that attitudes towards safety had changed. Everyone was wearing their animal hats again, and Two Bread Tom was overseeing the construction of an early version of the Guardian. Jo disagreed with his plans to seal off the islands, so she and a group of others split from the main group. This is probably the origin of the hiders.

personality

personality:Jo was always hyper and playful. Although she is easily frightened of Marceline, she gained trust for her later on. She seemed to have a liking in music, as she asks Two Bread Tom to play a song on his guitar and for Marceline to continue the song on her ax bass. In the graphic novel Adventure Time: Islands, she was shown to be resourceful enough to survive in the wild for an extended period of time. She also demonstrates strong leadership by opposing Two Bread Tom and splitting away from the main group.

appearance

appearance:Jo is a regular female human with a hat that has long bunny ears and a cape over her neck dropping down to her legs. Her cape and hat are both the same shade of white. Underneath the cape, she wears blue shorts and a light blue t-shirt that is torn above her belly button. Her hair is brown, her skin has a low tanned tone, and she is only ever seen barefoot
