Aliases Mary Jane (by her old group) Gender Female Hair Color Brown Eye Color Black Age Early to Mid 20s Occupation Post-Apocalypse Former Worker for Howe's Hardware Former Leader of the Cabin Group (Determinant) Family Jaime - Sister † Luke - Late Lover † (Unnamed) - Unborn Child Ethnicity Caucasian-American Jane can at first easily be described as an aloof and antisocial woman who prefers to stick to herself. Beneath the rugged surface, there is a somewhat more humble and softer persona. She is a resourceful, opportunistic and cunning person who has managed to adapt very well to the harsh and unforgiving lifestyle of a survivor, having developed a rather logical and cynical point of view on life. She has learned very well how to avoid and take down walkers and is an expert at using the walker guts trick to move around, having even developed an added "cowcatcher" maneuver for when she needs to physically push through walkers while traveling with a herd. Jane is brutally honest about her opinions of people and situations, which sometimes gets her into feuds with others. She believes the best chance to survive is to be alone, because groups of survivors tend to eventually crack and fall apart, leading to people getting killed, which she has witnessed more than once before. Jane is quick to notice group members who are a liability to herself and others, such as Rebecca's pregnancy, or Sarah's timid attitude. She believes that if people can't or don't want to be saved, they should be left behind rather than drag everyone else down with them. Because of this, people tend to see Jane as a cold hearted woman who only cares about herself.

The death of her younger sister, Jaime, profoundly shaped Jane's worldview, leading her to adopt a self-protective and distant persona. Before losing Jaime, Jane wasn't as closed off, but the decision to leave her behind stays with her and influences everything she does. This loss left Jane struggling between wanting to form connections and being afraid of losing people again. Although she usually remains composed and rarely talks about herself, the presence of Clementine and Sarah, the latter of whom reminds Jane of her dead younger sister, Jaime, softens and opens Jane up a bit, sometimes bringing back painful memories. However, Jane has difficulty expressing her emotions, often appearing detached or indifferent even when she does care. Jane and her morals appear to be self-conflicted, as noted when she encourages Clementine to steal the medicine from Arvo so that it may benefit the group, only to show regret immediately afterwards for robbing and threatening a kid like she is some lowly bandit (if Clementine does indeed take the medicine). Jane admits to Clementine that she was "stupid" as a kid. During "Amid The Ruins", it is revealed that Jane had a younger sister, Jaime, with whom she had typical sibling squabbles. She and her sister used to visit an amusement park in Virginia every summer, where Jane liked to pretend that they weren't sisters, instead merely friends. Jane also liked to tease her sister, in ways such as hiding her toys or putting gum in her hair and then cutting it out to give Jaime a silly haircut.

In "No Going Back", Jane tells Clementine about an incident in which she drank a bottle of alcohol belonging to her parents, when she was not too much older than Clementine. After drinking it and believing there were sugar crystals at the bottom of the bottle, she smashed the bottle on the floor to get to them, not being able to realize they were chunks of glass. Her sister, Jaime, found her drunk and bleeding from her mouth and had to call for an ambulance. Jane's stomach was pumped and she was grounded for six months. Jane also admits to Clementine that people spent the next year periodically stepping on a piece of glass that hadn't been cleaned up from the bottle. In cut lines from "Thicker Than Water", Jane reflects on her upbringing, stating that her parents couldn't handle living at the start of the outbreak and committed suicide. This despair eventually influenced her sister, Jaime, leading her to express a desire to die. Once the apocalypse unfolded, Jane had to drag her sister wherever she went, as she refused to get up in the mornings, sometimes even having to physically carry her. Jane took her across four states to survive, at one point joining a group near Washington, D.C.. Jane noted that she did not like a particular member of the group who died, though his death and a few deaths he caused taught her a lesson about how groups were dangerous to all who were a part of them.

Over time, Jaime began telling Jane how her only wish was to die, though Jane refused to listen to her. However, when the two sisters were forced up to a rooftop by walkers, Jane ordered her sister to jump to a nearby rooftop. She refused, demanding that Jane just let her die there. When Jane realized that there was no way that she could force Jaime to the other rooftop and that there was little time to argue before the walkers would get them, she jumped for safety and did not turn back. Jane was later found by Carver's Group, walking around outside the safe perimeter of Howe's Hardware, with walkers' guts smeared all over her body. It was later revealed that she often used it to walk amongst herds undetected. Other than that, it is implied that possibly she, and Troy had made an agreement that the two would help each other to escape from the 'pen' of the community, through some sexual deals that she offered. Jane is first seen sitting at a table when the cabin survivors are taken out to the yard by Troy. She walks past the group, and Clementine and the others stare at her, prompting Reggie to mention that she was found covered in walker guts. When Kenny asks Clementine to find a way out, Clementine can choose to look at Jane, but she will glare at Clementine, causing her to back away slowly. Later on, Jane is seen hoisting soil to the roof with the rope system, but the rope system fails, causing the soil to smack onto the floor. After this, when the others are talking about an escape plan, she mentions that they could get through the herd of walkers by covering themselves in walker guts. Clementine can side with her on this, having previously used this same trick to escape from the Marsh House and Savannah with Lee Everett's help. Jane then takes an active role in the planning, helping Clementine reach the roof to steal two walkie-talkies and urging the others to kill a subdued William Carver.

When the group is escaping, Troy tries to confront them. She approaches him seductively as she convinces him to let them go. After lowering Troy's guard, she shoots him in the groin and walks away, leaving him to be killed by walkers. She is then seen making her way through the herd with the rest. She is briefly seen killing a walker to try and assist Clementine and Sarah after Sarah's screaming breaks her undead disguise. After Clementine loses Kenny and Mike while they run with a wounded Sarita (Determinant), she attempts to navigate through the herd alone before being intercepted by Clementine and Rebecca. After ducking behind an overturned table, the pair spots Jane. The player can either plead with Jane to stay together when she suggests splitting up for safety, or agree with her. Regardless, Rebecca's panic causes Jane to stay with them. Using a clever tactic, Jane removes a walker's jaw and uses it to push through the herd. They make it out safely and walk into a forest toward Parker's Run. As morning breaks, the three make their way through a quiet forest, their bodies no longer coated in walker guts. Rebecca struggles to keep up, visibly fatigued and burdened. She worries aloud about whether Luke, Sarah, and Kenny survived the chaos, to which Jane responds bluntly, insisting there's nothing they can do if the others didn't make it. Rebecca lashes out, telling Jane to not say cold things. She expresses guilt over leaving Alvin behind (Determinant) and frustration over the group's escape plan, while Jane defends the strategy, blaming panic for the chaos. After they take a moment for Rebecca to rest, Jane promptly blurts out an inappropriate question about her pregnancy, with Rebecca interpreting it as an attack. When Jane tries to explain herself, Rebecca accuses her of implying that she wouldn't be capable of taking care of her baby. In turn, Jane begins to open up about her past with her sister, only to be abruptly cut off by Rebecca snapping at her. Hurt,

Hurt, Jane attempts to snap back, before giving up and walking ahead in silence while Clementine calls out to her.

Upon arriving at Parker's Run, Jane, Clementine, and Rebecca are met by Mike and Bonnie. Bonnie explains that Kenny hasn't said a word since they got there. Mike tried reaching out, but Kenny exploded. Mike either grimly points out that Sarita's not going to make it, or admits he's been scared to even go near him. Jane quietly asks if Kenny's going to put her down himself (Determinant), or jokingly asks Mike if he thinks Kenny's going to shoot him (Determinant). Rebecca snaps at her, saying it's not their decision to make (Determinant). Mike says they can't just sit here waiting to see what Kenny decides. Jane offers to put Sarita down if Kenny really wants her to (Determinant). Before Clementine goes to Kenny, Jane can assure Clementine that she did what she thought was right (Determinant). After Clementine talks to Kenny and returns to the group, Mike and Bonnie struggle to think of what to do about the situation. Jane, visibly tense, joins their conversation, pressing them on their next move. Much to the group's shock, Jane offers to go look for Luke, Sarah, and Nick (Determinant), saying she'd take Clementine with her. Before leaving, Jane tells Rebecca to keep the gun she got from Carver's corpse close. As she and Clementine walk away from the group, Jane looks at the statue on top of the fountain.

During their search through the forest, Jane admits she just wanted a reason to get away from the group. She tells Clementine that finding the others is a long shot, and adds that she wanted to speak with her alone. Jane warns her that the group is beginning to fall apart and insists that broken people tend to make broken decisions. She points out Kenny's instability and Rebecca's pregnancy as growing problems, suggesting that staying with the group could be dangerous. Clementine can try to defend her companions, but Jane remains skeptical, stating that trust is exactly what gets people killed. As they come across an abandoned car, Jane rummages through it, explaining that despite her criticisms, she does like most of the group. She simply believes Clementine deserves the tools to survive, like a better jacket, since the one she's wearing won't stop a walker bite. Jane mentions that her sister, Jaime, used to have a tough leather one, but trails off, not going into specifics even if asked by Clementine. This mention of Jaime leads Jane to vaguely recall her sister and the time they spent together after the outbreak. She describes how easy it was to be mean as a big sister. Yet despite the teasing, Jaime always saw her as a best friend. Jane also shares how she and Jaime used to visit an amusement park in Virginia, reminiscing about how it allowed her to pretend they were just friends instead of sisters. Jane clears her throat and looks into the distance, momentarily lost in thought, until she spots something in the distance.

The two then sprint toward it, finding a mobile home park, where Jane teaches Clementine practical survival skills, such as looting walkers. Jane stabs two fresh walkers, saying, "You can never be too sure with these things.". Since the corpses are fresh, Jane notes that they often have useful items compared to older ones, which might just have credit cards or pagers. Clementine finds bullets while Jane discovers a sharpened nail file in one of the walker's pockets, explaining to Clementine that nail files are versatile tools that can sharpen a blade or strike a flint, she chuckles at the memory of her sister Jaime always having one in her purse. As they turn over another walker, the two find Sarah's broken red glasses, just before they hear Sarah and Luke's screams. They hurry toward the trailer where Sarah and Luke are holed up, only to find Nick's reanimated corpse stuck in a fence (Determinant). Jane quietly reminds Clementine that sometimes, even those who were once friends need to be put down. After, Jane gives Clementine one of her screwdrivers, explaining that her hatchet often gets stuck. Further in the park, the two see two lone walkers. Jane teaches Clementine another skill, where she kicks the knee of the walker, causing them to fall on their stomach or back, then killing them by stabbing them in the head. They follow the screams of Sarah and Luke to see that the trailer they're held up in is being surrounded by walkers. Jane and Clementine distract the walkers by placing a corpse on the horn of a truck, and they plan to move past the barricade. However, when the horn stops, the walkers start returning to the trailer where Luke and Sarah are. Jane manages to hold the walkers off while Clementine kicks open the door to the trailer just before they're caught by them.

Inside, Sarah is catatonic, still traumatized by her father's death. Luke cannot move Sarah because she screams when touched, which attracts more walkers to the trailer. Jane urges Clementine to help move Sarah, but seeing the only way out is the skylight, she starts panicking, telling Clem that there's no time to escape. As the walkers start breaching the door, Jane and Luke hold the barricade steady and Jane orders Clementine to find something to help them escape. With walkers closing in, Jane pushes Clementine and Luke to move the sideboard toward the skylight while she holds the door shut, killing any walkers that break through. When the sideboard finally makes it through, Jane quickly closes the door and boosts Luke up through the skylight. Sarah still refuses to move, and Jane urges Clementine to leave her behind to save themselves. If Clementine abandons Sarah, the walkers will break in, and Sarah will be devoured by walkers. Jane is seen looking down, saddened at Sarah's death before muttering to the group to go (Determinant). However, if Clementine convinces Sarah to move, she will slap Sarah, and she will grab Luke's hand, allowing all four of them to escape safely. Jane immediately leaves the area, calling the group to go (Determinant).

As the group walks back, Luke either asks if they're close to Parker's Run, or talks about Sarah's demise. Jane reassures him. If Sarah is alive, she remains distant and Jane tells Clementine to give her some space (Determinant). Jane is approached by Clementine, asking what changed in Jane's attitude toward Sarah, especially after she had been ready to help earlier. Jane admits that she's seen this kind of behavior before and didn't want to stay for the inevitable end. Clementine can ask if Jane would turn on her if she were in a similar situation, but Jane assures her she wouldn't need to (Determinant). After seeing Luke beating himself up over the outcome, Jane shares the painful story of her sister, Jaime, recounting the countless times she had to drag her across four states while trying to save her until one day. When walkers cornered them on a rooftop, Jane couldn't make her sister jump to safety, so she left her behind, making the hardest decision of her life. She acknowledges that it hurt her for a long time but ultimately realized her sister wanted to be let go. She compares Sarah's behavior to Jaime's, saying both had no regard for their own safety. Clementine can defend Sarah, insisting she's not the same, but Jane pushes the conversation aside, telling them to return to their friends. Back at Parker's Run, Rebecca's labor begins, and the group must find a safe place and supplies for her to deliver. Jane heads to a nearby observation deck to find a secure area, while Mike and Bonnie go to search for supplies at a nearby museum. Clementine can choose to follow Jane or go with Mike and Bonnie.

If Clementine chooses to follow Jane first, she finds Jane sulking at a picnic table near the observation deck. After making small talk, the two attempt to open the gift shop nearby (Determinant). However, if Clementine chooses to go with Mike and Bonnie first; when she arrives at the observation deck, Jane is already working on unlocking the lock above and calls out to Clementine once she spots her (Determinant). As they search, Clementine sees a man limping toward them. After checking him out from a distance, they hide, and when he begins dumping a bag into a trash can, Clementine tries to talk to him or is seen by him (Determinant). The man pulls out a gun and points it at Clementine, but his shaky hands prompt Jane to disarm him. Clementine discovers a large stash of medical supplies, including painkillers. Jane mentions the state of the group, including Luke, Kenny, and Rebecca. The player then has the option to either rob him or return the supplies. If Clementine stays silent, Jane ends up letting Arvo go but blames Clementine for her indecisiveness. After this, Jane grabs Arvo by the collar and slams him against the rail, holding the gun to his head. She warns him never to return. As Arvo walks away, Jane drops the gun and stands over the rail, feeling guilty and regretting her actions. She tearfully returns to picking the lock and tells Clementine to let the others know about the observation deck. While running to the opened gift shop, Clementine later finds Luke and Jane together. Jane had offered Luke sexual intercourse, leading to an argument between him and Kenny. As they argue, walkers begin climbing the observation deck's stairs. Jane holds the gate along with the others while Kenny helps Rebecca deliver her baby. Jane is the first to point out that the walkers are going to pile up on them (Determinant).

The situation grows worse as half of the deck collapses, causing Jane and Sarah, to fall (Determinant). Sarah is trapped under debris, and Jane clings to the edge. Luke tries to rescue Jane, while Clementine can either help Jane or tell her to save Sarah. If Jane is told to rescue Sarah or Clementine stays quiet, she drops down, attempting to lift the rubble off of Sarah to help her escape. However, as Jane tries to lift the debris off Sarah, she is hit in the head by a falling plank, leaving her disoriented for a moment. When she regains her senses, it's too late. Walkers have already begun to swarm Sarah, who remains trapped beneath the rubble. Despite Jane's efforts, Sarah is devoured, and in either case, she is lost to the walkers. Afterward, Jane quickly pulls herself to safety, expressing regret to Clementine for not being able/not wanting to save Sarah (Determinant). Some moments later, Jane yells that the walkers are climbing up the fallen deck. She can also suggest dropping the rest of the deck (Determinant). After Rebecca delivers the baby, and things quiet down, Jane silently leaves the group. Once noticed by Clementine, she explains that Sarah's death, either in the trailer park or under the rubble, reminded her of her sister Jaime, whom she had to leave in a similar situation. Before departing, Jane reminds Clementine that she can survive by herself and that she doesn't owe the group anything. Jane offers Clementine the nail file as a parting gift and walks away. Her fate remains unknown.

Jane reappears just as Kenny is about to be killed by Vitali whom she stabs in the back of the neck, saving Kenny's life. As she takes her knife away, Jane immediately turns her head to Luke, making eye contact with Mike and Bonnie. Shocked at what she had done, she then confides in Clementine that she had never killed somebody who had never threatened her before. She then rejoins the group, and like them, looks sadly at Rebecca's corpse before noticing Luke glaring at her. Upon seeing his gaze, she looks down, ashamed. As Kenny begins to beat Arvo, Jane is prepared to take out her knife in case of anything. Jane agrees with the group that they should not kill Arvo and follow him to the house and dismisses Kenny when he blames her for the situation. Along the way, Jane walks beside Clementine and opens up about why she came back, admitting that her instincts told her to walk away, like she usually would, but something made her stay. She says Clementine is most of the reason she returned, and that she's here to try and make it work. After, Jane talks to Clementine about her concerns over Kenny's behavior, warning her that she may be the only one Kenny truly trusts now, and if the group is going to make it, it's going to be because of her. As the group rests up, Jane breaks up an argument between Kenny and Mike.

Later on, when the group discovers an abandoned power station, Jane proposes that the group stay for the night, and offers to scout the place with Kenny before ushering the rest over. That night, She stays on watch away from the fire, keeping her distance while the others drink and talk. Bonnie initially invites Jane over to the fire, but she declines. When Clementine approaches with a bottle of rum, Jane takes it, but upon looking over at Luke, she still remains skeptical and unsure about rejoining the group. After beating herself up over the offer a bit, Jane takes a sip and offers the bottle to Clementine. She can accept and tell Jane about the time she had moonshine with Nick (Determinant) until Kenny looks over, prompting Jane to quickly take back the bottle. After, Jane reminisces about the first time she drank, calling herself "stupid" for breaking into her parents' liquor cabinet and stealing a bottle of liquor. She recalls noticing sugar crystals at the bottom and got the idea to smash the bottle on the dinnertable to eat them. Jane rests on the fence as she remembers the bottle shattering into "a thousand pieces" and Jaime finding her bleeding, calling 911. Jane's story ends with getting her stomach pumped, and her parents grounding her for six months. Standing from the fence, Jane admits she hadn't thought about that in a long time. She takes another sip before handing the bottle back to Clementine and walking to the group. She awkwardly looks at Luke, and when Bonnie offers her spot, Jane deflects and sits next to Mike instead. After sitting down, Jane shakes her head and smiles at Clementine. Later, Jane laughs with the group when asked if she and Luke had time for kissing, confirming that there was none. When Mike offers to give some rum to Arvo, Jane agrees with Bonnie that losing his sister is hard, saying that his implication makes it harder to deal with. Ultimately, Jane, along with the group rests for the night.

The next day, Arvo leads the group to the house, which is located on the other side of a frozen lake. Jane, although thinking they should've stuck to the treeline, accepts the idea of walking across it, but suggests the group spread out to even the weight. When Luke and Bonnie fall through the ice, Jane crouches and tells Clementine that it's too late to save them. If Clementine also falls through, Jane is seen running on ice, eventually managing to pull Clementine out and carry her the rest of the way to the house. Inside, shaken by Luke's death and Clementine's near death, Jane rushes to find something to start a fire. After Kenny beats Arvo, Jane discovers one of two bags of supplies in the next room, and criticizes Kenny for his actions. If Clementine refused to take Jane's nail file, Jane will use it to light a fire with some flint; if Clementine took the nail file, she will give it back to Jane to start the fire after she realizes she doesn't have any matches. After Clementine wakes up, Jane tells her that Kenny is currently working on a truck outside and gives her a can of food. She then laments about the loss of Luke, saying that she lost people before, but it hadn't hurt like that in a while. Clementine can either comfort her, or tell her to move on, to which Jane responds that she knows. Together, they sit in silence, watching Mike tend to Arvo's injuries. When Kenny asks Clementine for her help with the truck, Jane offers to watch Alvin Jr., much to Kenny's dismay. When Clementine returns, Jane had moved AJ because Mike and Arvo were too loud. She elaborates on Kenny's behavior, and tells Clementine to prepare for the worst. When Alvin Jr. stirs, Clementine can offer him to Jane to comfort. Jane will hold AJ, introducing herself awkwardly and saying he will puke on her, which comes true. After she wipes her jacket, Jane begins to recount to Clementine a story from her past about a time near DC when she had been running with a group of people. A man got tr

A man got trapped under a car, hiding from walkers. People went down trying to save him, and four died in the process. The man was already bit, turned, and killed an elderly woman. Before Jane can finish her story, she gets cut off by car sounds.

When Kenny manages to get the truck working, Jane suggests the group head back south to Howe's, in order to get more food for the baby and getting out of the cold, but is hesitant to travel anywhere in the middle of the night, and decides to turn in for the night after the group argue over their next decision. However, after Mike, Bonnie (Determinant) and Arvo wound Clementine during their escape attempt, Jane and Kenny drive off in the truck with her and Alvin Jr. Jane and Kenny then begin arguing about where to go, and still suggests returning to Howe's on the grounds that they know where it is and know that it is well-stocked with supplies for the baby. The argument soon turns sour, with Kenny criticizing Jane about her reputation to take off on her own with little-to-no regard about anyone else, and Jane telling him about his lack of priorities in regards to his family. They are soon forced to stop due to a block in the road. When Kenny decides to check the surrounding cars for gas, Jane groans in anger and tells Clementine that she can't take it anymore, suggesting to leave AJ in the car for Kenny while she and Clementine leave. However, Walkers soon start appearing, forcing Jane to have Clementine drive, but are forced to continue on foot when Clementine hits a walker that crashes through the windshield. Jane manages to get out of the car with Alvin Jr., calling out to Clementine to hurry while getting run off into the snow and separated from Clementine. Jane later manages to rendezvous with Clementine and Kenny at a rest stop a mile away, but arrives without Alvin Jr, telling them that he is dead. As Kenny goes to investigate, Jane warns Clementine to "stay out of it" and to trust her, telling her that she is about to see Kenny for what he really is.

When Kenny returns, he accuses Jane of killing the baby and tries to attack her. Jane dodges and draws her knife to defend herself, but then decides to sheathe it, ordering Kenny to stay away from her. Once Jane's hand is away from her knife, Kenny charges towards her and pins her against the glass, the two of them each shedding Clementine's efforts to separate them. (Determinant) Jane redraws her knife when Kenny gains the upper hand and slashes him across his gut and chasing him out of the rest stop. She orders Kenny to leave, but he refuses, blaming her for all of their troubles. Clementine tries to intervene again, (Determinant) but Jane ends up attacking Kenny again regardless. As they continue to struggle, they smash through a wooden road sign, both being momentarily stunned but Jane gets up first, managing to grab Kenny, turn him on his back, and gouging her fingers in his damaged eye. After Clementine tries to break them apart a third time, (Determinant) Kenny recovers Jane's knife. Jane notices and tries to crawl back, but ends up knocking Clementine down and Kenny stabs Jane in her thigh. Clementine sits up to find the two of wrestling over the knife, with Kenny on top of Jane declaring his intention to kill her and notices her pistol laying in the snow. Desperately trying to resist Kenny's efforts, Jane responds that she "knew [he] would" want to kill her. Forgive Jane (Alive): Clementine realizes that Jane was right about Kenny and forgives her. Jane is relieved by her compassion, leading the two of them to depart the area with the baby in tow and head back south to Howe's.
