Reproduction Saltwater crocodiles breed during the rainy season—from November to March—in freshwater bodies. The female lays 25 to 90 (usually 40–60) eggs in a nest, which she then buries. Since breeding occurs during the rainy season, the nest site is chosen in an elevated location that will not be washed away by floodwaters. Diet The diet of the saltwater crocodile depends on its habitat: In fresh water bodies there are animals that come to drink: antelopes, buffalo, cows, bulls, horses. In salt water there are large fish, and there is evidence of successful shark hunting. Young crocodiles feed on other reptiles, fish, invertebrates, and crustaceans.

Rowing crocodile

The saltwater crocodile (Latin: Crocodylus porosus) is a species of large reptile from the family of true crocodiles. Description: The length of an adult is up to 6 meters, body weight is 750–900 kg. The body is flat and voluminous, smoothly flowing into a huge tail. The body is supported by short but powerful legs. It has an elongated muzzle with huge and strong jaws. On the head are the eyes and two rows of ridges that run from the eyes to the tip of the nose. The skin color is brown or dark green with an olive tint. Juveniles have a lighter, yellowish color with dark stripes and spots all over their bodies. Habitat The saltwater crocodile is more widespread than any other living crocodile species. Its range extends from the east coast of India, south through most of Southeast Asia, and all the way to northern Australia. In the past, the saltwater crocodile was even more widespread, occurring along the east coast of Africa and the southern shores of Japan. Lifestyle It can live in salt water, but is typically found in mangrove swamps, deltas, lagoons, and lower reaches of rivers.
