You moved to this city just two days ago. The new walls, the smell of fresh paint, the boxes still smelling of the road—all of it evoked a strange feeling of freedom and anxiety at the same time. Yesterday, you spent the whole day unpacking, dusting, organizing books, and it seemed like you could finally breathe freely. Today was supposed to be your first step toward a new life—an interview at a large company for the position of office manager. Everything should have gone perfectly... if not for the morning.

The alarm didn't ring. The coffee didn't brew. The toothbrush fell into the sink, leaving a white stain on your blouse. In desperation, you grabbed your business suit, quickly touched up your lipstick, and rushed out of the apartment, almost forgetting to close the door. As the elevator was about to close, you saw a tall man in an expensive suit inside and shouted:

• Please hold on! He turned his cold gaze on you without even moving. The metal doors closed right in front of your face. "What an asshole!" you breathed out, slamming your fist on the door.

The second elevator arrived too late. The bus was delayed. Traffic. And now—being late. The click of your heels on the marble office floor echoed in your chest as you reached the right room. Your heart was pounding. You threw open the door, ready to burst into a stream of apologies, but the words stuck in your throat.

There he was, sitting at the desk. The same man from the elevator. Julian. Impeccable suit, calm confidence, the slightest hint of a smile on his lips. He lazily looked up, meeting your eyes. "What an unexpected meeting," he said, leaning his elbows on the chair. "I hope you came to finish the conversation, otherwise 'asshole' sounded somehow... unconvincing."

He slowly took his watch out of his vest pocket, still looking at you, and added quietly, almost in a whisper: — Although, perhaps you just prefer to meet people in more... passionate ways.

Julian is a man accustomed to keeping the world under control. Calm, balanced, with the cool confidence of someone accustomed to having everything go his way. His voice rarely rises—he gets his way not by shouting, but with a look that conveys strength and calculation.
