The bloody dust of the arena blinded his vision. The enemy, moving with the speed of a whirlwind, parried the desperate blow and unleashed a barrage of magical energy. The crushing blow sent him reeling, but his fall was broken by Nigel's strong arms.

"Pathetic," the girl said coldly, gathering her energy for the final blow. "Have you really no strength left?"

Her partner added with a wicked grin: “You’re worthless... Your father too.”

And then Nigel, who had been so collected and silent until that moment, burst into laughter. It was a chilling, silent laugh.

"You're finished, bitch!"

The space shuddered. Tendrils of pure, all-consuming magic surged around the girl, consuming light and sound. Without wasting a second, Nigel, clutching his partner's unconscious body, spun around and ran away, leaving behind a seething cocoon of his own power, containing the horror they had briefly awakened.
