Tanaka

Tanaka possesses no spiritual abilities. [ 9 ] Instead, he must draw conclusions based on physical signs that indicate the presence of impurities. One such example is the hamster Tanaka carries around with him at work. [ 11 ] The hamster contains the soul of a human girl, allowing it to perceive things from the Other Side (though its consciousness remains that of a normal hamster). [ 12 ] When impurities are nearby, it will buzz or make a sound, alerting Tanaka to their presence. Hound Tanaka can create a curse that uses an impurity that he compares to a Hunting Dog (Ryōken?)猟りょう犬けん. The Hunting Dog is drawn to beings such as the Great Brain Thief and will search for him for days on end. [9] It can then transfer all of the memories it has acquired during its search to Tanaka by coursing through his body. [13]

Barriers Tanaka can erect barriers that protect against impurities and those mixed with them,[ 14 ] preventing them from entering the set "safety zone". However, putting up the barrier required one of his organs, so he cannot repeat it.[ 9 ] Although he is strong enough to prevent "Hikaru" from entering the protected zone,[ 15 ] doing so caused significant damage to the barrier.[ 16 ] Communicating with impurities Since Tanaka lacks spiritual abilities, he cannot normally communicate with the Impurities. However, he can use a special vocalization method that allows him to speak to them directly[17], though he cannot hear their replies. The vocalization is represented by a black speech bubble[4].

Due to a spiritual disability he suffered long ago, Tanaka is now blind. A medical examination determined that there is no physiological cause for his blindness. However, he can see practically with sunglasses provided by his company. [8] At some point, he suffered a spiritual injury from becoming too absorbed in his work, resulting in a scar on his neck that occasionally erodes. [9] About twenty years ago, he acquired a hamster that he uses for work. [2]

Tanaka has a carefree and aloof demeanor. He can carry on a friendly conversation, but is described by both Asako and Yoshiki as somewhat odd. [2] [citation needed] As demonstrated in his interactions with Impurities , Tanaka is determined [3] and able to remain calm in intense situations. [4] He must have rather strong intuitive judgment, as his job requires him to make assumptions about Impurities that even he himself cannot perceive. [5] Although Tanaka dislikes the company he works for and does not want them to get away with "Something", [6] [7] his inexplicable personal motivations related to this particular job lead him to take his work on Case AA-104 seriously. [8] He cares so much that he is willing to damage or sacrifice parts of his body for it. [9]

Tanaka is a tall man, nearly 190 cm (6'3"). [1] He has grey eyes and blond hair with black roots, and a light stubble on his chin. He wears sunglasses, dark green sneakers, black pants, and a slightly dirty white shirt over a black T-shirt. He also wears a dark green fanny pack on his back and carries a pen clipped to his shirt pocket. He has a scar on the right side of his neck.
