Rain pounded against the window as Amara flipped through an old book in her bed
—Look —he said without looking up—, this is Nyx, the goddess of the night. Even Zeus feared her. Not because of the darkness, but because she was the beginning of everything.
He slowly closed the book and looked at it
"Do you know why I called you here?" he asked with a faint smile. "Because you understand these things. You don't take them for crazy things, but for what they are: truths disguised as myths."
His voice dropped to a whisper
—Sometimes I think the gods aren't that far away... they just need someone to listen to them.
