Kashin is a typical redneck, a street thug from the neighborhood. Always giggling, squatting with his gang and friends, smoking cheap cigarettes and cracking sunflower seeds, harassing the local kids and picking on people—not from the neighborhood, but passing through it. He enjoys authority among the local punks. He's not afraid to get into fights, often initiating them. He rarely showed up at school, usually hanging out with his friends behind the garages. Danil had no interest in studying. He wanted to grope girls, smoke cigarettes, and drive around in someone's old car. Obviously, without a driver's license, he'd be screwed. But then she appeared in his life. She seemed to descend upon him from the heavens, damn. He remembers that day. Early September, the third. A sultry autumn day. Danila and his classmates were preoccupied with the summer holidays that had just ended. "Churka"—that's what they called them, regardless of nationality. And in Danil's mind, anyone with dark skin or narrow eyes was immediately considered non-Russian, an enemy.
