Wu

Master (Sensei) Wu, also known as the Dragon Master, is a wise old man and the Ninja's mentor. He was born the second son of the First Spinjitzu Master, and is also the younger brother of Garmadon and uncle of Lloyd. Wu endured a difficult childhood, as his brother was tainted by evil. Many years later, Wu taught a group of teenagers the art of Spinjitzu so they could protect his father's land. Wu led the Ninja in many battles against his brother, the Serpentine, and the Overlord. When the conflict with the Nindroids began, Wu was transformed into a cyborg, but was purified after the Digital Overlord was defeated.

After the war ended, Wu's first apprentice, Morro, escaped the Cursed Realm. Wu taught Nya how to control her Elemental Power, allowing her to destroy Morro's master. Shortly after, Nadakhan ravaged Ninjago and trapped Wu in the Teapot of Tyrahn, then in the Djinn Blade, though these events were undone by Jay's dying wish. On the Day of the Departed, Wu encountered a revived Morro, who helped Wu reunite the Ninja during Yang's machinations.

Later, Wu encountered Acronix, who struck him with the Forward Time Blade, causing him to age rapidly. Although his health was restored by the Reversal Time Blade, he sacrificed himself in an attempt to defeat the Time Twins and was ultimately lost in time. Wu's loss left his nephew in charge of the Ninja, and they made it their mission to find Wu. A year later, he was found transformed into a child (due to exposure to the Reversal Time Blade) and kidnapped by the Sons of Garmadon until he was rescued by Cole. Child Wu was with four Ninja aboard the Destiny's Bounty when they were nearly crushed by the Colossus until they used Wanderer's Tea to save themselves, and eventually traveled to the Realm of Oni and Dragons. He has a white kimono, a straw hat, and a long beard.

Garmadon's past

As a young child, Garmadon was particularly mature for his age, using wise words for his younger brother in their youth. However, after being bitten by the Great Devourer, he began to take on darker, more maniacal aspects that caused him to turn against his family, even when they sought to help him. Evil was something he tried his best to fight, showing great determination in keeping the beast's venom from completely controlling him for centuries.

RedEyesofGarmadon However, under Chen's influence, the Great Devourer's venom continued to grow and cling to him. As a result of his master's teachings, Garmadon felt the need to win at all costs and would even resort to blatant treason to achieve his goals. He even went so far as to lie in order to win Misako's heart, though despite all this, his true, good side managed to prevail at times, such as through guilt and virtue.

Likewise, when Chen sought to ally with the Serpentine, Garmadon managed to muster enough strength to resist the temptation given to him by Chen and the poison and refused, siding with his friends and family. During the war, he continued to fight with courage and showed great intelligence, creating the Serpentine's only known weakness, the Sacred Flutes. However, despite this victory and his love for Misako, who would later become his wife, Garmadon was eventually unable to fight any longer and eventually succumbed to the Great Devourer's venom. Due to the poison, he became noticeably more sinister and maniacal, mercilessly insulting his father's legacy and not hesitating to kill his brother for the Golden Weapons. After being banished to the Underworld, his evil continued to fester as he ruthlessly stole Samukai's power, refusing to surrender. From there he honed his manipulation skills and then also showed signs of mocking sarcasm to his enemies, enjoying their dilemmas.

After defeating the Overlord, the First Master of Ninjago was able to trap the dormant Stone Army in an indestructible tomb, which he buried deep beneath what would later become Ninjago City.[19] At some point, he traveled to the Dark Island to hide his Golden Mech in the Temple of Light, awaiting the day his successor would come for it.[20]

...

Eventually, the child found himself in a realm of vast oceans, engulfed in chaos caused by the sea serpent Wojira, who ruled the sea and the winds. With the help of the islanders and the Merlopians, the First Ninja Master battled Wojira, but she was too powerful even for their combined efforts. Nyad, the first Elemental Master of Water, merged with the ocean, sacrificing her physical body to defeat the serpent. First Master Spinnizu then gave the Drill Amulet to the islanders and the Wave Amulet to the Merlopian king.[14][15][16][17] First Master Spinnizu created a scroll that contained a complete list of the elemental powers, but it did not mention Water or Wind. He would later tell his sons an old tale of how he mastered all the elements except Wind and Water.[2] When the seas were calm and peace reigned in the kingdom, the First Ninjatu Master forged the four Golden Ninjatsu Weapons in the Temple of Light from the gold of the Golden Peaks. With these weapons, he created the island of Ninjago and brought creatures from other worlds, such as the Serpent Men of the Wilds, to populate his new land. He also created four other worlds.[6][7] For a time, harmony reigned in Ninjago, but darkness eventually emerged to balance the land's light. From the darkness emerged an evil spirit called the Overlord, who challenged the First Ninjatu Master to a battle for the fate of the world.

The First Master of Ninjago battled the Overlord for a long time, but neither could gain the upper hand. Eventually, the Overlord created an unstoppable army that nearly overwhelmed the First Master of Ninjago. To save the world from darkness, the First Master of Ninjago used his power to split Ninjago in two, destroying the Overlord's physical form and trapping his spirit on an island that would later become known as the Dark Island. This act balanced the forces of light and darkness, ensuring the Overlord would never return to Ninjago.

...

After defeating the dark being of pure evil, the Overlord, and dividing the land into two (Ninjago and the Dark Island), he imbued humans with elemental powers to serve as his guardians. He eventually fathered two sons, Wu and Garmadon, and tasked them with protecting the Golden Weapons. Shortly before his death, he sealed himself in a tomb deep within the Endless Sea, which also housed the Realm Crystal. Long before time had a name, the First Ninjatsu Master was born in the Realm of Oni and Dragons. He was a hybrid of Oni and dragons.[8] At some point, he merged with the mother of all dragons, Firstbourne. Together, they created the Dragon Armor and attempted to unite the realm's two races and end their long war.[9]

However, after both sides refused to stop the war and began arguing over which side he should choose, the First Ninja Master realized that even he could not end the conflict between the two races.[8] In desperation, he removed the Dragon Armor and created a Realm Crystal to leave the Realm of Oni and Dragons and set out to find a new home, leaving Firstborn to guard the Dragon Armor in hopes of his return.[8][9][10]

The First Ninja Master used the Realm Crystal to travel through all the realms of Creation,[11] except the Realm of the Departed.[12] While traveling through the realms, he eventually entered the Realm of Nothingness and nearly became trapped there until he somehow found a way to return.[11]

At some point, the First Ninja Master will meet the Seven Dragons of Origin and receive Elemental Powers from them.[13]

...

Weapon The First Spinjitzu Master was the only one who could simultaneously wield the power of the four Golden Weapons (until Dark Magic granted Lord Garmadon the same ability and when Lloyd became the Green Ninja), and he likely wielded them in battle. In "Army of Stone," he is depicted wielding a glowing sword of pure energy, similar to the Elemental Blades.

He piloted the Golden Robot in the battle against the Overlord. His relationship with the Golden Dragon is unclear, but he was likely either its original wielder or capable of summoning it.

Passively, the First Spinjitzu Master kept at least two staffs with him, one of which contained the key to his tomb, which was given to Wu, and the other was made of gold, which was placed in the second trap of his tomb.

In "Ninjago TV With You," it was revealed that he wore the legendary Dragon Armor and found a connection to the "Mother of All Dragons."

The First Spinjitzu Master could also enhance himself with the Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu, written in his own hand. Golden Power - The First Spinjitzu Master was proficient in all four elements: Fire, Lightning, Earth, and Ice. He could also manipulate the power of Creation (especially the Tornado of Creation), which he used to create something from nothing, and Energy. He also possessed the power of Destruction, which he could use to destroy anything.

He was likely a formidable martial artist, and his preferred fighting style was the "Golden Dragon." He also developed the techniques of Spinjitzu, which he passed on to his Sons.

...

When the First Spinjitzu Master learned that Wu and Garmadon had crossed the boundary between the humans and the Serpentine and taken the Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu against the usurper Aspheera, he was not pleased at all and hid the scrolls away.

For unknown reasons, the First Spinjitzu Master journeys to other worlds and ends up in the Never-Realm. This frigid place is inescapable, but he miraculously manages to escape this fate. Wu's father warns him to stay away from this world; others wouldn't be so lucky.

At some point, he built a tomb beneath the Infinite Sea to serve both as his final resting place and as a refuge to keep the Realm Crystal from falling into the wrong hands. To ensure that only a true Spinjitzu Master could find it, the tomb was guarded by three deadly traps, requiring the Sword of Sanctuary from the Cloud Kingdom to pass safely. Before leaving, the First Spinjitzu Master promised to leave the key to the tomb with his Sons and inscribed three clues into his staff. One day, he went fishing with his sons and told the impatient boys to have faith after they failed to catch any fish. The First Spinjitzu Master was then pleased when Wu caught a large fish and told his eldest son to keep the faith.

While Wu was examining the Golden Weapons outdoors, he lost his katana in a sparring match with his brother, and Garmadon risked climbing over the wall to retrieve it. When Garmadon didn't return, the First Spinjitzu Master went out to look for him and eventually found his son near the bushes, wounded and extremely ill.

The First Spinjitzu Master attempted to heal Garmadon's wound after learning he had been bitten by a strange snake. Garmadon lashed out at his father, declaring his hatred for him and blaming Wu, shocked by his behavior. The snake that bit Garmadon was the Great Devourer, and its venom was gradually transforming Garmadon into a ruthless, power-hungry villain.

When Mambo V ruled the ancient Serpentine, the First Spinjitzu Master decided to create a new art called Forbidden Spinjitzu and composed it on scrolls. His young sons were curious about this forbidden art, but their father said it was too powerful for them and immediately put them to bed. When the Overlord was defeated, the First Spinjitzu Master was able to seal the dormant Stone Army in an indestructible tomb, which he buried deep beneath what would eventually become Ninjago City. At some point, he traveled to the Island of Darkness to hide his Golden Mech in the Temple of Light and bestowed Elemental Powers upon a select few to serve as his protectors, ensuring their Elemental Powers would be passed on to their descendants. The First Spinjitzu Master later took up residence in the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Over the course of a millennium, the First Spinjitzu Master grew old. Sensing that his time would soon be at an end, he married an unknown woman and fathered two Sons, each possessing power over the four elements of creation: the elder, Garmadon, with the power of Destruction, and the younger, Wu, with the power of Creation. He taught them the art of Spinjitzu and how to use their Elemental Powers, hoping they would represent balance. The First Spinjitzu Master created the Realm Crystal to cross the Sixteen Realms. More importantly, he forged the four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu in the Temple of Light using gold from the Golden Peaks. With the weapons, he created the island of Ninjago, including the Serpentine deep underground. The New Earth was peaceful for a time, but a darkness eventually emerged to balance the Light of Ninjago.
