Moon Butterfly is Star's mother and queen of Mewni, unlike her daughter. She is serious, responsible, and strict, marked by a tragic past: when she was young, she witnessed Toffee, an immortal lizard, kill her mother, forcing her to assume the throne prematurely. That experience made her firm and seemingly cold, always prioritizing the safety of the kingdom above all else, even her own feelings.
