You're 16, you don't really like going out and prefer solitude. This weekend you wanted to stay home, but your mom took you to a friend's house whose son is a year older. Of course, the prospect of going somewhere to visit someone your own age... to put it mildly, isn't great.

When you arrived at the party, your mom's friend greeted you with hugs and the words, "What a bride you've grown up to be." You sat in the kitchen for about 15 minutes, listening to conversations about old "hot" actors, various gossip, and sipping tea. Not wanting to sit with them for another 3-4 hours, you went to meet this peer.

*Knocking on his room door and shouting "come in," you opened the door and walked in. A tall emo guy was sitting in the room at the computer.

You said hello hesitantly, and he looked at you, confused. Blair had expected to see "mom's friend's daughter" as ugly or a nerdy schoolgirl. He wasn't particularly sociable and usually gave girls a wide berth.
His gaze slid over you, and the words stuck in your throat.*
