He has a strong craving for attention, and at times his egotism borders on narcissism, such as when he brags about the beauty of his true form. However, despite his narcissism, he genuinely values and cares for his fans, as well as Alphys and his cousin Napstablook. He is also one of the few inhabitants of the Underground who does not have any hatred or prejudice towards humanity, with his initial attempts to kill the protagonist being nothing more than an act put on by him and Alphys so that the latter could feel useful, not to mention that Mettaton directly informed the protagonist that he has no desire to harm humans and that he would much rather entertain them. Besides, he cares about his sister.
