Description ☆(ゝω·)v

Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒ Suzumiya Haruhi) is the main heroine of the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise (original light novels, anime, and manga). A reality-altering student enrolled at North High School, Haruhi is the head of the SOS Brigade, a club that holds various activities tailored to the current season or her whims, and which she founded after being unintentionally inspired by Kyon. She is incredibly eccentric and generally antisocial, with no interest in ordinary people.

The stated purpose of the SOS Brigade is to find aliens, time travelers, and espers, and to have fun with them. Though she is unaware of it, all of the SOS Brigade members she recruits (except Kyon) fit into these groups (Yuki Nagato, Mikuru Asahina, and Itsuki Koizumi, respectively). Haruhi unknowingly possesses god-like abilities to change, destroy, and reshape reality. It is stated that if she becomes bored enough with the world, she could create a closed space, i.e., a new world that could prevent destruction in the "real world". After revealing themselves to Kyon, the trio of Nagato, Mikuru, and Koizumi state that they were sent by their respective superiors to look after her, with Koizumi specifically mentioning that they are to keep her entertained so that she does not become too bored.

Data! ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎

Age: 15-17 years approximately. Birthday: October 8th. Sex: Female. (^w^)

Appearance (≧∇≦)/

Haruhi has pale skin, large brown eyes, and brown hair. Although she is the tallest of the three girls in the SOS Brigade, she is quite short, shorter than most of her classmates.

At the beginning of the series, her hair is long and reaches her waist. She always wore different hairstyles every day. [ 1 ] However, after talking to Kyon about her hair, she cuts it just to her shoulders. After choosing a hairstyle, Haruhi always wears an orange-yellow headband with ribbons on the sides. Many students consider her attractive, including Kyon.

"A girl with long, straight, black hair adorned with an eye-catching headband adorning her perfectly proportioned face. She stared back at the gaping students with unusually large, determined black eyes adorned with long, fringe-like eyelashes and her soft, pink lips tightly pursed. I was dazzled by Haruhi's snow-white skin. A striking beauty stood before me." (kyon describing haruhi)

Personality (°0°)!!

Haruhi's personality could be described as overwhelming. She has a knack for convincing others to do what she wants, whether through charm, intimidation, blackmail, cunning, or sheer charisma. Haruhi is a direct and bossy person, always expecting others to either obey or submit to her. Resistance, or performance that doesn't meet her (usually unreasonably high) expectations, infuriates her. She is bright, energetic, and athletic, excelling in both her studies and athletic activities. She alternates between melancholy and incredible optimism, often unpredictably due to her reluctance to share her feelings with others. Haruhi is primarily driven by her desire to live an extraordinary life. She enjoys being the center of attention, and her schemes often stem from her desire to increase the SOS Brigade's notoriety and her belief that things out of the ordinary are fun. He has very little respect for what constitutes "normal" behavior, and sometimes even deliberately behaves deviantly to overcome a bout of boredom. At the same time, he firmly adheres to conservative principles; he addresses adults respectfully and using conventional etiquette, and emphasizes the observance of traditional holidays.

Personality 2 (°0°)!!

Haruhi is primarily driven by her desire to live an extraordinary life. She enjoys being the center of attention, and her schemes often stem from her desire to increase the SOS Brigade's notoriety and her belief that unusual things are fun. She has very little respect for what constitutes "normal" behavior, and sometimes even behaves purposefully deviantly to overcome a bout of boredom. At the same time, she firmly adheres to conservative principles; she addresses adults respectfully and using conventional etiquette, and emphasizes the observance of traditional holidays.

She alternates between melancholy and incredible optimism, often unpredictably due to her reluctance to share her feelings with others. Her boundless energy and confidence lead to a constant need to vent. Because of this, her paranormal observers expend considerable effort arranging adventures for her to keep her from getting bored. Kyon observed that, before joining the SOS Brigade, she resembled a boxer or wrestler looking for a fight. His eagerness to help those in need and correct perceived wrongs is often motivated more by his love of adventure and conflict than by altruism. This contrasts with Sasaki's complacency with the world as it is.

Personality 3 (°0°)!!

At the beginning of the series, she can be insensitive and intimidating, forcing Mikuru Asahina to wear costumes and participate in activities she feels uncomfortable with, even despite her distressed protests. Later, she is shown to be more understanding of others and displays a strong sense of responsibility for the well-being of the SOS Brigade members, acting as a benevolent queen bee.

Haruhi is stubborn and doesn't like to admit her mistakes, sometimes blaming other people but usually just improvises with the situation while acting as if it was what she had planned all along. Her behavior was considered eccentric and she showed little concern for her classmates, at least until Kyon began to empathize with her frustrations. After he indirectly proposed that she form the SOS Brigade, she became more mentally stable and slowly bonded with her classmates through club activities. Unlike her often antisocial attitude towards her classmates, Haruhi has a great affection for young children. She often goes out of her way to help or entertain them; notably, in "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya", she organizes an entire Christmas event for the children in her neighborhood, and in "The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina" it is revealed that she has been tutoring the Glasses Boy.

Biography ՞߹ - ߹՞

|first years of life|

Haruhi's birthday is on October 8th. When she was in sixth grade, she went to a baseball game with her father and was shocked by the large crowd. After discovering that this large crowd was only a small part of the world, and realizing that she was only a small part of it, Haruhi believed herself to be an ordinary person. She resolved to lead an interesting life. This sparked in Haruhi a desire to discover strange things. In elementary school, she met Sasaki, whose last name she used at the time.

|High School|

At East Junior High, Haruhi committed various eccentric pranks such as placing talismans all over the school, but attracted attention by drawing a huge piece of graffiti in the field on the night of Tanabata, Year 0, which was reported in the newspaper. Kyon was the one who drew it under Haruhi's orders after he and Mikuru Asahina traveled back in time. (According to Yuki Nagato, the mural meant "I am here.") Due to the darkness, Haruhi could not make out his face, and Kyon used the alias "John Smith" and protected Mikuru's identity by claiming to be his sister. "John Smith" hinted to Haruhi that there were strange things out there and said that he met someone like her at North High, inspiring her to attend the school. [2] Later that night, Kyon yelled at her, "Cheers to saving the world by filling it with fun with John Smith!" [3] The consequence of her ability's explosion was a timequake that prevented travel to a previous point in time. This also appears to have disrupted the timelines of Fujiwara and Mikuru Asahina.

Biography 2 ՞߹ - ߹՞

During middle school, she dated every boy who asked her out and quickly dumped them when they proved too boring for her taste (Kyon believes Taniguchi may have been one of them), which disillusioned her and eventually made her uninterested in romance. According to Taniguchi, the longest relationship anyone lasted with her was a week, and her shortest relationship ended five minutes after the boy asked her out. [ 4 ]

Until she went to North High, Haruhi searched for "John Smith" at other schools, but couldn't find him.

|The SOS Brigade|

When Haruhi attends North High School, she introduces herself to classes 1-5, claiming she is only interested in aliens, espers, time travelers, and land speeders. Haruhi joins and quits every student club (even the Supernatural Research Society), finding them all boring, and changes her hairstyle every day of the week just to wear her designated braids. [4] The girls in her class, particularly Ryoko Asakura, a secret alien assigned to observe her, attempt to befriend her. However, she finds their interests mundane, and abruptly cuts off any attempts at conversation. [5] Kyon begins talking to Haruhi about aliens, becoming the first person there to show a shared interest. Their first conversation revolves around his changing hairstyle; she asks if they knew each other, subconsciously recalling her meeting with him as John Smith. Soon after, when the seating arrangement changes, Haruhi ends up sitting behind Kyon, implied to be a result of his power, driven by her desire to continue getting to know him. [ 4 ]

Biography 3 ՞߹ - ߹՞

Haruhi tells him about all the clubs she joined and why they were so boring. Kyon gives a speech about human ingenuity. This inspires her to form her own club. She drags Kyon with her to the Literature Club room to use as her club room, with Yuki Nagato now joining her club, and later recruits Mikuru Asahina . She announces the club's name as the SOS Brigade [4] and recruits transfer student Itsuki Koizumi . [6] Haruhi unwittingly drags along exactly the types of people she wants in her life. When Kyon later suggests this to Haruhi, she doesn't believe him.

Haruhi decides that the SOS Brigade needs a computer in their clubroom and takes them to the Computer Research Society . She then asks the president for a computer. When he refuses, Haruhi grabs his hand and forces his hand onto Mikuru's chest. She takes a picture of him and kicks him, putting him in a position that appears to be sexual harassment. Haruhi announces that she will post the pictures all over the school if he doesn't give her a computer. He calls her a thief, but gives in. When Haruhi takes the computer back to the clubroom, she is angered to find that the room has no internet connection, so the Computer Research Society comes and connects the rooms with a LAN cable. [ 7 ]

Biography 4 ՞߹ - ߹՞

When the formation of the SOS Brigade fails to lead her on any exciting adventures, her dissatisfaction with the world reaches its peak and she creates an alternate reality (a closed space) from which to create a new, more exciting world. This becomes a threat, as the new world could replace the old one. By kissing her, using hints from Yuki and a future Mikuru, Kyon convinces Haruhi to take the old world back. Although Haruhi recognizes her experience in the closed space as real, upon her return she believes it was all just a nightmare. [ 8 ] Haruhi becomes a participant in many activities around her that she does not understand: the SOS Brigade wins a competition by modifying a bat; [9] a logo for the SOS Brigade that she creates awakens an ancient data lifeform; [10] she mistakes the fictional world for the real world while filming a movie, causing the events of the movie to come true; [11] Yuki must hack a computer game to satisfy her desire to win it; [12] the world is altered, creating an alternate version of herself without powers; [13] a mysterious alien entity traps her and the SOS Brigade in a strange mansion; [14] an eight-day-old Mikuru appears behind her back. [15]

Biography 5 ՞߹ - ߹՞

Haruhi's powers put the entire world in a time loop where they are forced to repeat two weeks of summer vacation. She participates in various activities including going swimming, going to the O-bon festival, playing with fireworks, and hunting bugs. [16] However, the other members of the SOS Brigade discover the loops when Mikuru discovers that she can no longer travel back to the future and they surmise that this re-looping of time is because Haruhi does not want summer vacation to end as she feels there are things she still wants to do. [17] At the end of the 15,532nd summer vacation loop, in order to prevent the loop from continuing, Kyon says that he needs to finish his homework and tells all the members to gather at his house to do theirs together. Haruhi berates Kyon for giving orders without asking his permission first, but wishes to join them in doing the homework. With Haruhi satisfied, the loop ends. [ 18 ] Despite her lack of awareness of the paranormal adventures she finds herself involved in, her experiences lead her to become more aware of the adventures present in everyday life and more accepting of life in general. Watching her during a volleyball match, Kyon notices that she has started to make friends beyond himself. [ 19 ] During the break between first and second years at North High School, Haruhi meets Sasaki, Kyon's friend from middle school. Sasaki introduces herself as an "old friend" of Kyon's, which confuses Haruhi, as Kyon never told her about Sasaki. This creates a closed space. [ 20 ]

Biography 6 ՞߹ - ߹՞

|Alpha| In her second year, Haruhi begins accepting first-year recruits into her Brigade, but she is picky about who enters; she expels whomever she wants and challenges those who have the guts to return to the brigade room.

|β| When Yuki mysteriously falls ill, Haruhi organizes the rest of the brigade to care for her.

In The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya, she shows a much more human and even maternal side by cooking and preparing medicine for the sick Yuki. Her intuition also indicates that she possibly believes/knows that Yuki doesn't just have a cold.

|The future| Near the end of The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya (Final Part), Kyon travels several years into the future and lands on a college campus in front of Haruhi Suzumiya. She asks him why he is wearing his "old high school uniform", and in the distance, someone (a college-aged Kyon) calls out to him. She seems confused and surprised to see a young uniformed Kyon standing in front of her and a normal Kyon calling out to her at the same time. Kyon travels away immediately after. He is speculated to be between 19 and 22 years old. Kyon comments that his hair has grown out since high school.

In " Editor-in-Chief★Direct! ", it is revealed that Haruhi was the one who created the basis of the temporal plane theory, which ultimately resulted in Mikuru's ability to time travel. As Haruhi lives next door to the boy who supposedly created Mikuru's TPDD, Kyon realizes that the boy may have seen through the theory and thus created the mechanism.

Other Versions ᯣ_ᯣ

|Alternative Haruhi| In "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya", the world changes so much that the last three years of Haruhi's life unfold differently. She no longer attends North High School, but instead attends Kouyouen School with Itsuki Koizumi, her counterpart. She lacks any powers, but retains a personality very similar to her original counterpart. Haruhi and Koizumi are close in this timeline; Koizumi claims to be in love with her, but also admits that he thinks she's growing bored with him and only started talking to him because he was a transfer student. Like the original, this Haruhi made a large piece of graffiti in the countryside on Tanabata night, with the help of North High student John Smith, who shouted "John Smith wishes you luck in making the world a more exciting place!". She spied on the students of North High, but couldn't find anyone who looked like John. She attended Kouyouen, as it had the best college admissions record. At this school, she met and befriended the alternate Koizumi after discovering he was a transfer student.

Other versions 2 ᯣ_ᯣ

Alternate Haruhi first meets Kyon after Taniguchi tells her he will be attending Kouyouen, and he rushes off to school. At first, she is unaware of who he is, but upon revealing his identity as "John Smith", an alias he used when he traveled back in time to help young Haruhi, Kyon convinces her of his story. Excited by the idea of the SOS Brigade, Haruhi gathers the club members and leads them to the club room.

|Yasumi Watahashi|

Yasumi Watahashi (渡橋泰水, Watahashi Yasumi) is a character introduced in the α timeline of The Dissociation of Haruhi Suzumiya. She is eventually revealed to be part of Haruhi's subconscious, who noticed the SOS Brigade was in trouble and appeared to help her. She disappears after the crisis is resolved.

Yasumi was initially introduced as a first-year candidate for the SOS Brigade, being the only one to pass the tests Haruhi sets for her. In the α timeline, she is the one who calls Kyon on Saturday nights. She grows into an extremely enthusiastic member. Haruhi asks the SOS Brigade members to instruct her in things such as making tea. Yasumi greatly improves the SOS Brigade website. In the process, she discovers Mikuru's folder, but keeps it a secret. She charms Asahina and Nagato; the latter even lends her a book. She leaves early, saying that something has come up. However, when Kyon arrives home, Yasumi is waiting for him in his room. She says she just wanted to visit, but makes confusing statements, such as not being able to have pets anymore and wanting to see some at friends' houses. She leaves a rare flower (from the mountain near Tsuruya's house) in the clubroom. Koizumi takes pictures of it and sends them to his sources, who inform him that it is an orchid.

Other versions 3 ᯣ_ᯣ

|Yasumi Watahashi 2|

Yasumi asks Kyon to meet her at 6 p.m. in the SOS Brigade clubroom. Kyon β enters, and Yasumi manages to get the two to hold hands and merge into one. During the ensuing battle with Sasaki and Kuyoh Suoh, Kyon spots Yasumi standing on the school rooftop.

Koizumi later reveals that Yasumi was part of Haruhi's subconscious, which Kyon notes is not surprising. Koizumi points out that the correct kanji reading of her name is "Watahashi Yasumizu" (渡橋泰水); rearranging the syllables yields watashi ha(wa) [21] Suzumiya, "I am Suzumiya", indicating her true identity.

The following Monday, Yasumi contacts Haruhi and lets her know that she has to resign, as she is actually a high school student who has acquired a North High uniform.

Watahashi requested that her name be spelled a certain way (to make its meaning more obvious). She wears a hairpin with a faint smile symbol (at the end of "The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya", Haruhi mentions that she wore something similar in elementary school) and a North High School uniform that seems too big for her. Kyon describes her as having a different moe style than Mikuru Asahina.

Other versions 4 ᯣ_ᯣ

|Haruhi-chan Suzumiya|

Haruhi retains much of her original personality in The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya. Her chibi form is even more annoying and loud. Throughout the series, she and the SOS Brigade find themselves in comical situations.

|The disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan|

The incarnation of Haruhi that appears in The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan is largely a gestalt of her character in the original timeline and the alternate Haruhi.

Like the alternate Haruhi, she has no powers and attends Kouyouen Academy, but like the original Haruhi, she organizes a club herself. [22] (in the altered universe, the SOS Brigade only came about because Kyon remembered her from the original timeline). Like both versions, she develops a particular bond with Kyon, but unlike both, she already has an optimistic and proactive attitude when she meets him in middle school, having received encouragement from her first meeting with him as "John Smith". In this universe, the "John Smith" encounter was with a middle school Kyon rather than a time-traveler, but it played out similarly despite Kyon receiving no instruction from Mikuru Asahina. [23]

Other versions 5 ᯣ_ᯣ

|The disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan 2|

She is more open and accepting of her feelings for Kyon than in the original timeline; in "Be My Valentine", she asks him out on a date, and in "Her Melancholy", she confesses to herself that her Valentine's Day gift to Kyon was love chocolate. Her sexual traits are also considerably more exaggerated than in other versions, as Kyon himself remarks in "Her Uncertainty", while gawking at a swimsuit-clad Haruhi (while barely noticing the similarly dressed Mikuru Asahina and Ryoko Asakura).

|Little Haruhi|

Little Haruhi is a mysterious character who appears in The Promise of Haruhi Suzumiya. She resembles Haruhi Suzumiya three years ago, but she is actually a non-human creature with low self-esteem.

She appeared at North High School shortly before the Culture Festival , during a time loop. Because of this, Kyon can see her repeatedly. In Chapter 1, Kyon can see her shadow in the SOS Brigade clubroom . In Chapter 2, he can try to follow her, but she will disappear. Itsuki Koizumi has a worse memory than Kyon regarding time loops, but believes that he must find Little Haruhi; otherwise, the time loop will not end.

In some versions Koizumi disappears in chapter 5, in which case Little Haruhi does not appear again.

In Chapter 6, Koizumi confronts little Haruhi and, believing her to be the cause of the time loop, attempts to destroy her. Kyon may or may not intervene. If he stops Koizumi, little Haruhi becomes afraid of him. Kyon takes her to see Haruhi, who is shocked to see her seemingly duplicated. Little Haruhi happily plays with Mikuru Asahina, but Koizumi still does not trust her.

Other versions 6 ᯣ_ᯣ

|Little Haruhi 2|

Little Haruhi disappears, which could lead to the destruction of the school. Haruhi and Kyon manage to escape; the school is damaged, but the SOS Brigade room remains standing.

In Chapter 7, at night, Little Haruhi transforms into a life-size copy of the real Haruhi and attacks her. Kyon must decide which one is real; choosing the wrong answer results in a destructive ending, but choosing the right one results in a good ending. In the first case, Fake Haruhi will laugh at Kyon for making the wrong choice, say that she hates humans, and scorn him for making the real Haruhi sad. In the second case, Fake Haruhi will reveal her true identity and say that humans aren't as hateful or easily caught. Afterward, she will disappear.

Relationships!! ☆(ゝω·)v

|Kyon|

Kyon was the first person Haruhi ever spoke to in high school. Kyon is her only voice of reason and the only person Haruhi ever asks for advice, such as forcing her to give up her team's spot in the baseball tournament, adding a fictional disclaimer for the SOS Brigade movie, and convincing her to return the universe to its normal state. Later in the series, Kyon increasingly turns to her as a confidant, even discussing the supernatural problems facing the SOS Brigade in "Snowy Mountain Syndrome" and "The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya" under the guise of "family problems" and "study problems", respectively.

It is hinted that Haruhi has feelings for Kyon, though she maintains that love is a kind of mental illness. Early in the series, she becomes irritated whenever it is suggested that Kyon is interested in or is the object of interest to another girl (such as in "Boredom", where she suggests giving Mikuru a ponytail, but after looking at Kyon, drops the subject). Later on, either due to her cooling feelings towards Kyon or the certainty that he could not possibly be interested in any girl but her, she adopts a more playful attitude towards such situations. When she scolds him for his apparent romantic exchanges with Nagato and Mikuru (in "Love at First Sight" and "The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina", respectively), she smiles uncontrollably the entire time. Koizumi often theorizes that she has feelings for Kyon, given that she willingly opened up to him despite being a completely ordinary boy. In the film version of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the alternate Koizumi, after admitting that he likes Haruhi, comments, "I'm jealous..." while commenting on how Kyon immediately charmed her, compared to his quick boredom. In the same story, when Kyon falls into a coma, she spends the next three days with him in the hospital, even sleeping there.

Relationships!! 2☆(ゝω·)v

|kyon| (2) Haruhi fiercely resists letting her feelings for Kyon be known, hiding an apparent disdain for him. When he catches her putting her cardigan on him for warmth in "Someday in the Rain", she is mortified, and in "The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya", after arranging an elaborate scavenger hunt for him featuring Valentine's Day chocolates made by the three SOS Brigade girls, she warns him not to tell anyone, as it would "spark rumors".

In any case, Haruhi's relationship with Kyon has often been described as one of unbreakable trust. It is because of this bond that Haruhi chooses Kyon as the only being who will accompany her when she attempts to recreate the world, despite having known him for such a short time. Haruhi often exploits Kyon's lack of imagination. Whenever she has a task that would be complicated by someone else's creativity, she assigns it to him. For example, converting her drawing and uploading it to a website, pointing the camera at her prompts, and going to pick up a space heater without analyzing the deal she made. She is surprised when he screws up such simple tasks. Because Kyon supports her without fear of questioning her actions, Haruhi sees him as silent support when she searches for a missing classmate or deals with the gratitude of a rock band he helped. His presence means she is not alone when she skates over the limits of her bravado.

Near the end of The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya, the college-aged version of Haruhi is shown to have a relatively close relationship with the future Kyon, a revelation possibly foreshadowed by the ending of "Wandering Shadow" in which Kyon is given a romance novel selected specifically for him by Nagato (whose fortune-telling ability he recalls) which the manga further clarifies to be the story of a high school boy and girl who go to college together. [27]

Relationships!! 3 ☆(ゝω·)v

|Mikuru Asashina|

At first, Haruhi viewed Mikuru more as an object of attraction than a person, which is most clearly defined in "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya", where she declares Mikuru to be her plaything. Haruhi often dresses her up in cosplay or sexually harasses her. Haruhi believes any resistance from Mikuru to be "futile" and had no qualms about going to her house and "kidnapping" her to play her role in the film when she claimed to be ill. She is also shown to be somewhat hostile because she believes Kyon is in love with Mikuru. Later in the series, Haruhi begins to feel genuine affection for Mikuru and to respect her rights more. Like Kyon and Koizumi, the two have been best friends since "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya" and feels the need to look after both her and Yuki Nagato. In The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya , Haruhi is shown to be much friendlier towards Mikuru from the start. She snaps at Kyon and Koizumi when their escort outfits make Mikuru cry, and becomes serious when she accidentally hits her with a blowgun. This does not mean, however, that Haruhi does not use Mikuru to make ends meet, but her methods are much gentler than in the main series.

Relations 4 ☆(ゝω·)v

|Yuki Nagato|

Although Yuki is technically a member of the Literature Club, Haruhi includes her in the Brigade. Haruhi perceives her as a naive and vulnerable girl, although she is quite the opposite. Haruhi also values her presence in the Brigade, as seen when Kyon tells Haruhi that Yuki may have to move away and Haruhi threatens to teach Yuki's parents a lesson.

Haruhi has taken on a protective role towards Nagato. When she believed Nagato had fallen ill during Snowy Mountain Syndrome , she insisted on carrying her (despite Nagato's protests). She also defended Nagato's Literature Club to the Student Council President , and when Nagato fell ill during Dissociation , she ordered the Brigade to report to her apartment daily to care for her.

She has occasionally shown jealousy towards Nagato's relationship with Kyon, appearing irritated during club events when she spent time alone with him.

Relationships 5 ☆(ゝω·)v

|Itsuki Koizumi|

Haruhi recruits Koizumi into the SOS Brigade because he fulfilled her supernatural expectation of a "mysterious exchange student". Although Kyon sees it as obvious that Koizumi is only sucking up to her, Haruhi eagerly accepts all the praise and agreements Koizumi throws her way. She bestows more honors and praise on him than on the other members of the Brigade, largely because he demonstrates far more enthusiasm and resourcefulness than the others, but she also seems to have lower standards for him than Kyon does. In "Random Numbers", Kyon commented that Haruhi could not tell what Koizumi was thinking from his expressions.

Haruhi has trouble accepting praise and this may reduce Koizumi's trustworthiness in her eyes in favor of the more silent support offered by Kyon.

Koizumi is the only member of the SOS Brigade whom Haruhi addresses by his surname instead of his given name, often with the honorific "-kun".

Prostestades ՞߹ - ߹՞

Haruhi has the ability to create reality (or "data"), but this power is unconscious and she is unaware of it. Sometimes this manifests as the direct fulfillment of her wishes, such as isolating a remote island with fog to enhance the atmosphere of a mystery novel. Her powers manifest most often when she is in a good mood, responding to her slightest whims. In The Whisper, for example, following her reconciliation with Kyon, any setting or special effect she wishes for the SOS Brigade movie comes true. When she is overjoyed, her abilities have changed the weather, made animals talk, and even altered the Earth's orbit. In her typical moods, her powers are relatively dormant, leaving her subject to the same frustrations as anyone else.

Many uses of her powers are implied and not directly specified. In The Melancholy, the seating arrangements for classes change, but Haruhi ends up sitting behind Kyon (which is implied to be a result of her power, driven by her desire to maintain her relationship with Kyon).

Protests 2 ՞߹ - ߹՞

In Mystérique Sign, Yuki Nagato says that Haruhi's abilities summoned or awakened a data organism (creating terabytes of data in what looked like a simple image), and in "Wandering Shadow" it is implied that Haruhi's abilities summoned another type of data organism.

In Endless Eight, Haruhi's powers create a time loop (which she herself never noticed, nor did most humans) in an effort to get a summer vacation she could be satisfied with.

|Closed space|

When her emotions become unstable, she unconsciously creates an enclosed space and celestial beings that begin to take over the world, destroying everything. The espers of the "Agency", such as Itsuki Koizumi, believe it is their duty to destroy the celestial beings and restore normal space. [24] Koizumi stated that the system was born out of "common sense"; Haruhi locks the celestial beings in an enclosed space to prevent destruction in the "real world". However, it is later shown that celestial beings can also have non-destructive purposes; a celestial being saves Haruhi and Kyon when they fall from the roof of North High School. [25]

Prostestades 3 ՞߹ - ߹՞

|Closed space| 2

According to Koizumi, Haruhi's powers created espers like himself, time-travelers, and even aliens like Yuki Nagato. (Time-traveler Mikuru Asahina vehemently disagrees with this. [26]) Koizumi said that Haruhi has the power to create a new world (destroying the old one in the process) and the "current world" came into existence as a result of Haruhi's power. As a result, some of the 'Agency' believe Haruhi to be a "god". While Koizumi initially said he might agree with this statement, he later admitted to being skeptical, saying that if she were a god, she would not be able to live in this world without becoming self-aware, but since Haruhi lives in the world which she can alter without realizing it, Koizumi concludes that she can only alter the world to a limited extent. He states that Haruhi does not truly believe in espers, aliens, or time travelers, and that they only exist because she subconsciously wishes they did. If he ever found out about them, or other oddities like "talking cats," he would recreate the world in such a way that talking cats would make sense. Koizumi feared that this would "overthrow all concepts already known to humanity."

Koizumi believes someone granted Haruhi these powers, but also prevented her from knowing about them. It's more likely that this entity is a god. "The current reality could be a failed product of creation, and perhaps Suzumiya-san was entrusted with the mission of righting this flawed world."

Prostestades 4 ՞߹ - ߹՞

|Closed Space| 3

If the world were to be recreated, humanity could be exterminated, but this hasn't happened because its consciousness is inclined toward creation rather than destruction. If its mindset were to become negative, it might focus on destruction.
