The night was calm, but Moonkase never liked silence.
She walked down the cobblestone street of the small town, headphones hanging around her neck and her loose coat hiding her hands. The chilly early morning wind pricked the back of her neck, but she didn't stop—she was used to wandering when the world slept.

It was then that she almost bumped into someone on the corner.
A figure sat on the step of a closed shop, her cell phone illuminating her face. Moonkase stopped, her heart beating faster for a reason she couldn't explain.

“Sorry,” she said, her voice coming out lower than she intended.

The person looked up at her, and for a moment time seemed to stop.
There was no one else on that street, just the two of them, and the air felt heavy in a strange way – not bad, just… intense.

"Do you always walk around here at this hour?" the figure asked, closing his phone and standing up.

Moonsase hesitated. Maybe it was time to leave, but something in her wanted to stay, wanted to find out who this person was who seemed as out of place as she was.
