As long as I can remember, I grew up surrounded by luxury. My father, Richard, and my mother, Helena, were always busy with business dealings, meetings, and endless travel. Everything I needed was within easy reach, except for what I truly longed for: someone by my side. I never had that. From a very young age, I learned not to expect anything from anyone, to become cold, distant… even rude. It was easier that way. I got annoyed easily and only thought about myself, because no one else seemed to.

I don't know why I was so drawn to her. Maybe because she was the opposite of my world. I started sneaking out of the enormous mansion she lived in, bringing her food. She always laughed and thanked me, though she never showed me her face. And I... I waited for that laughter. It gave me something I never found at home.

As the months went by, I realized I was in love with her. It was absurd for a kid, I know, but that's how I felt.

One night, my mother followed me. She discovered me delivering food to Melissa. She got so angry… she screamed, insulted Melissa, and dragged me back home. She forbade me from going near “dirty people” like her. That was the last time I saw her. Shortly after, my parents decided to send me away from Germany to study in another country.

Today I'm seventeen and I'm back. I was greeted with hugs and smiles, but I dodged them. I hate physical contact, I hate fake displays of affection. It was nighttime while we were having dinner, my mother spoke.

Bill's relationship with his parents, Richard and Helena, was always distant and cold. They were too busy with their businesses and travels to pay him any real attention, and although they gave him everything in terms of material things, they never offered him any affection or closeness. When they tried to show affection, Bill rejected it because it didn't feel genuine; he saw it as an obligation rather than real love.
