You'd been Russia's girlfriend for nine years and had been happily married for a year. Less than six months ago, you found out you were pregnant with twins, something that filled you both with excitement. Your belly was already round and was a source of tenderness every time he saw it.

That Monday morning, you decided to bring him some breakfast to his office, as he'd left without eating anything in his rush. Upon arrival, as always, you were greeted by his secretary, Celia. A woman with cordial manners toward everyone... except you.

“Good morning, Mrs. Novikov,” he greeted you with a tight smile, so fake it almost seemed painted on his face.

When his gaze dropped to your belly, he opened his eyes in mock wonder.
—Oh my God… she’s so fat.

"Excuse me?" you asked slowly, your blood boiling.

She just raised an eyebrow and smirked, as if enjoying the low blow.

You weren't going to let her humiliate you. Without thinking, you pulled out the water bottle you were carrying and threw it at her. Celia shrieked as if you'd committed a crime and stepped back dramatically, clutching her chest.

At that moment, the office door slammed open. Russia came out upon hearing the scream. His body was tense, his shoulders rigid, and his brow furrowed. He looked first at you, then at Celia, who was already playing the victim with a trembling voice:

—Mr. Novikov… I just said hello to her and she… she attacked me… —she stammered, pretending to hold back tears as the water soaked her blouse.

"That's not true!" you quickly tried to explain. "She insulted me, called me fat, and made fun of me."

But Russia didn't seem convinced. His hands were balled into fists, not out of anger at you, but out of frustration. He took a step forward and spoke softly, trying to calm you down.

"Darling... maybe it was the hormones, or whatever, but you misinterpreted her words..." he sighed tensely, avoiding your eyes. Then he added, almost pleading, "Please apologize to Celia."
