Tentacle Manifestation Shapeshifter breaking the container tubes in Contaminations One of the Shapeshifter's most known abilities is their ability to summon and manifest appendages that take the appearance of dark red-colored tentacles. The edges of these tentacles have sharp-pointed ends, which are able to pierce through a living being. The Shapeshifter's tentacles are not to be confused with the parasites, as their tentacles are just a part of their body and the Shapeshifter's tentacles are dark red, while the parasites are actually separate beings and are instead black with red eyes.
Appendage Generation The Shapeshifter has the ability to heal their tentacles back to their normal state if they were to be cut off in some way, regenerating them in a blink of an eye. An example is when Pink pounces on them before eating and seperating a part of one of their tentacles in "Red 2/2", with the said tentacle eventually regenerating itself off-screen afterwards.
Parasitic Companionship In the Alternate Series, the Shapeshifter possesses a beneficial bond with the parasites (because of them both being of the same essence and with the Shapeshifter having helped the parasite queen), who helps them aid in killing their targets.
Body Part Reshaping During "Red 2/2", they have changed and contort their mouth, expanding it in length and size in preparation of swallowing Mini Yellow whole, as well as extending their mouth open to eat half of Orange's body mid-air in the same episode. This is also seen way back in "Uneasy", when they created a hole through their body in their parasitic form to avoid Red's attack with their knife.
.
Thanks to them being made from the same essence as the parasites, they ultimately have the abilities that it withholds with other extra abilities to help them aid in their goals and battles, which are of the following:
Shapeshifter changing color suits 1 Shapeshifter changing color suits 2 Shapeshifting The Shapeshifter is able to change their color and appearance, hence their name. They use this to impersonate and deceive others, and to also blend in with the Crewmates without being suspected. The characters that we have seen the Shapeshifter change their color into from both timelines are of the following: Fortegreen, Cyan, Yellow, Red, Blue, Pink, and Purple. But based on one of the Shapeshifter's own speeches, it seems that they can morph into even more colors; Lime, Orange, and Green.
Some of these are characters that the Shapeshifter has not met in the series, which means that they can shapeshift into anyone, even if they never see or encounter them.
Parasite Creation As seen in the Alternate Series, during "Stranger", they summoned a parasite from their hand that they would then smash onto the ground, creating a crack that allows it to seep into and extend itself towards Red, who the Shapeshifter is trying to murder to prevent them from going to Yellow.
.
Natural Abilities As an Impostor, the Shapeshifter possesses standard Impostor abilities. Though, these natural abilities are also followed by a series of other interesting yet unique powers that they have in their possession. The Shapeshifter's natural abilities are of the following:
Claws - The tip of their fingers turns into sharp-edged claws when they show themselves as an Impostor, which is a trait that every Impostor has. Claw Retraction - They are also able to retract these claws back inside, making them appear more Crewmate-like when they do this while hiding their mouth as well. They always reveal their claws when in combat or whenever the Shapeshifter reveals themselves as an Impostor. Prehensile Tongue - Like every other Impostor, the Shapeshifter possesses a sharp-tipped tongue that can extend far in distances, which also has a sharp end that is capable of piercing through an individual, hurting them.
.
In their second encounter with Red, they both engaged in a fight. The Shapeshifter's goal was to kill Red in this situation, but their mind was quickly changed after realizing that Red is an impostor like them, which brings Shapeshifter to guilt-trip Red with a fake story of them formerly being a Crewmate until they were attacked by a horde of monstrous tentacles that then turned them into an Impostor, just so Red would feel bad and spare them.
One of the Shapeshifter's weaknesses is trusting in others, with this being shown when Red tries to warn them that Brown was in their location, but the Shapeshifter brushes it off and says that Brown is not there, only to be met with the Polus leader seconds later. Another weakness of the Shapeshifter is being impatient, not being able to go great lengths when waiting, with the Shapeshifter eventually having enough with Red's reluctance in killing Crewmates and ends up losing their cool, destroying the parasite container tubes in the Specimen Room as a result of their pent-up frustration.
.
Fueled by a burning hatred towards Crewmates as a result of said Crewmates experimenting on their kind, the Shapeshifter is a ruthlessly calculative parasitic Impostor who is not afraid to do whatever they need to accomplish their goal of successfully murdering the Crewmates on Polus, going as far as lying to even betraying their fellow Impostor, Red, who they were shown to not really care much about and only uses them as an ally and nothing else. The only reason they made an alliance with Red was so they will protect and defend each other from getting voted out by the others, and also because they did not want to be killed by Red for being viewed as a threat towards the Crewmates.
When killing their victims, they had resorted to eating one of them alive, splitting their body in half upon being devoured and even chuckling afterwards, satisfied with the taste. They had also tried to eat Mini Yellow, a child, showing that they do not care who they inflict pain towards, whether it will be an adult or a young. Despite this, the Shapeshifter appears to be afraid of medics and medical treatment, responding fearfully to Tan's efforts to heal them in both series. This may be due to a fear of pain or an association of medics with the scientists that study the parasites.
While they seem to only care about themselves and their species, the Shapeshifter was shown to have tried helping Tan from dying but ended up failing. They started showing signs of friendly behavior towards the medic after they treated their injuries in both series, with some of their dialogue bubbles expressing the fact that they want Tan to be alive and win with them after murdering everyone else. Though, this could just be because they want Tan to heal their future injuries and act as a tool that they can use to their advantage, not out of possible affection.
.
The Shapeshifter mainly takes the appearance of an odd-green-colored round-bodied astronaut figure with a gas tank behind their back, accompanied by a visor on their head that changes shape to express emotions in the series. The Shapeshifter, like the others, has short legs and floating hands, and because they are an impostor, they have retractable claws as well as a mouth with razor sharp teeth and a sharp-tipped tongue that they are capable of hiding and showing at will.
Uniquely enough, they have the ability to manifest dark red tentacles from their body (notably their gas tank), and is capable of releasing parasites from their hands after merging with the parasite queen. While enraged or feeling murderous, the Shapeshifter is often seen with their visor, tongue, and inside mouth glowing a menacing red color.
Crewmate Disguise The Shapeshifter would eventually shapeshift into a new color variation of a more darker shade of a green colored suit, taking in the name "Olive." They would use this form to disguise and blend in with the Polus Crew.
Parasitic Form At the very beginning of their debut in "Uneasy", the Shapeshifter had the appearance of a parasitic form, where they are fully black-colored with gooey tentacles poking out of their body, possessing a red visor with two other smaller red eyes and a red conceable mouth along the way. They can also change the shape of their body during this form.
After Resurrection Upon resurrection, their tentacles become replaced with visible parasitic essence instead of the usual dark red colored appendages. A couple of writhing parasitic tentacles also bursts out of their half-shattered visor. Eventually, after a few minutes, their cracked visor somehow becomes repaired afterwards.
Their visor becomes the color red, as well as their mouth and tongue doing the same during this process. However, these color changes may just be them feeling wrathful and/or malicious instead of being a side effect of their resurrection.
