Dolores Perez is an Emergency Department Nurse at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Dean Archer

Dr. Dean Archer is a Board-certified Surgeon and an Attending Physician in the Emergency Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Dean served in the Navy together with Ethan Choi. During Season 6, it becomes clear that he still stuggles with PTSD. He also has a severe disdain for anything to do with mental illness and psychiatry, which often puts him at odds with Dr. Charles.

Dean has a persistent habit of antagonizing everyone around him and belittling patients with psychiatric symptoms instead of purely physical symptoms, going so far as to claim that they do not belong in the ED.

As of 7x11, he has a son who he has not spoken to in 15 years.[1]

He has a close friendship with his colleague Dr. Asher

Hannah Asher

Hannah's mother died while giving birth to her due to undiagnosed aortic stenosis. She had refused to seek earlier treatment because she wanted to be the best mother to Hannah's older siblings, Elizabeth and Matt, by not taking time away from them to visit a doctor. Hannah still harbors some resentment for this decision that led her to never being able to know or remember her mother.Hannah was able to conceal her addiction to heroin from her colleagues until Will Halstead encountered her at a safe injection site where he was volunteering. Initially, this led to strain in their working relationship, with Will threatening to report her and being uncomfortable with her treating patients. Will came to care about Hannah and they eventually developed a romantic relationship, but Hannah continued to use deception and manipulation to conceal her addiction, until Will had her arrested and put into rehab by calling in an anonymous tip to the police, who found drugs in her car.

She struggled during rehab, being forced to quit cold-turkey without the use of methadone because of being a health care professional. After pulling through, she and Will resumed their relationship, but Will worried that Hannah was replacing an addiction to heroin with an addiction to love. At the beginning of Season 6, she was brought into the ED, again having suffered a relapse and an overdose. She decided to go into rehab again and to afterwards, leave Chicago. she later came back and is now the ED attending physician for Obstetrics and Gynecology

Sam Abrams

Dr. Abrams has an abrasive, no-nonsense personality and way of communicating with his colleagues and patients. But mentioned in the season 1 episode Timing, Dr. Downey says that he liked Sam's bedside manner. He often criticizes the decisions of others as rash or based too much on emotion.

One of Sam's most famous quotes is, "This vent could be put to better use" when he breaks the news to Will and Jay in the episode When to Let Go that their father, Pat Halstead, is brain-dead. After he says this, Jay becomes agitated and Will has to hold him back

Cornelius Rhodes

Cornelius was born into the wealthy and influential Rhodes family. His father started the Dolan Rhodes Department Store. He eventually married a woman named Elizabeth with whom he had two children: a son, Connor, and a daughter, Claire. Ten years after the birth of their son, his wife threw herself off the roof of their home. Connor later implies he is convinced that she committed suicide due to her husband's abuse.

Cornelius had an adversarial relationship with his son, never having forgiven him for not going into the family business. To this end he made large donations and secured a position on the executive board of the hospital, in order to exert his influence over his son's work.

In order to secure a donation from him for Connor's Hybrid OR project, Ava Bekker slept with him. She initially denies it when Cornelius reveals it to his son, but Connor eventually comes to believe him after Ava's behavior becomes increasingly erratic.

Daniel Charles

Dr. Daniel Charles has been married four times. His first wife was Caroline "CeCe" Charles, with whom he had a daughter named Robin. Robin is an epidemiologist who worked at Med for a time and was romantically involved with Connor Rhodes. His second wife was Susan Charles, with whom he has a daughter named Anna. Susan and Anna moved to Milwaukee after their divorce, but returned some time during season 5.

Not much is known about his third wife, except that she was from Spain and loved the poet Lorca.[1]

After her return to Chicago to seek experimental treatment for her cancer, Daniel re-marries CeCe in a surprise Hawaiian wedding ceremony, attended by his mother with whom he has reconciled. CeCe passed away from lymphoma shortly after I Can't Imagine the Future. In Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore he is seen visiting her grave site.

Daniel had a brother named Tommy who died of a drug overdose. He is still in touch with his nephew Matty who, like his dad, also got addicted to drugs but managed to recover.

Daniel has struggled with depression for which he takes antidepressants. At several points he has decided to self-medicate by adjusting his dosage due to the medication making him numb, often with less than ideal results.

Before coming to complete her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Gaffney, Ava worked at Groote Schuur Hospital, a teaching hospital located in Cape Town. She worked under the mentorship of world-famous heart surgeon Dr. Marvin Jaffrey.

Ava and her co-fellow Connor Rhodes initially dislike each other, but later develop a healthy sense of competition, vying for the approval of their mentor Dr. Latham and frequently one-upping each other. They eventually become romantically involved. They date, but eventually break up after Connor discovers that Ava slept with his father in order to gain funding for Connor's pet project, a hybrid cardiac operating room in the emergency ward. Ava is unwilling to let Connor go, pursuing him aggressively. During the course of season 4, when Connor starts to rebuff her romantic advances, Ava starts to torment him with increasingly elaborate schemes and ploys, culminating in her killing his father Cornelius with an overdose of insulin.

Sharon Goodwin

Sharon Goodwin (née McGee) is a Certified Critical Care Nurse and serves as the Executive Director of Patient and Medical Services at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. As a former Emergency Department charge nurse (a role currently being fulfilled by Maggie Lockwood), she is often able to see issues from a nurse's perspective, rather than a purely business perspective. She is fiercely protective of the people who work under her, but she is also very much inclined to follow rules and protocols. This often leads to heated exchanges with staff members who want to do the right thing, even if it is not the legally correct thing to do. During the season 1 episode Intervention she celebrates her 32nd wedding anniversary with her husband Bert Goodwin, however he leaves her in the season 1 finale, which leaves her skeptical of the institution of marriage.

Will's life at home was particularly hard, as his father always pushed him and was disappointed in his choices, especially when Will decided to go to college and majored in biology in undergrad rather than going straight to work. Due to this, Will left for New York & put himself through college and medical school with no support from his father. His brother, Jay, became a U.S. Army Ranger likely right out of high school stationed in Afghanistan. After Jay returned from the war, he joined the Chicago Police Department & became a detective in the Intelligence Unit. Their mother developed an unknown kind of cancer, first starting to get very ill while Jay was deployed. Will was not "around" when she died, something that Jay harbored a significant amount of resentment towards him for & something Will feels very guilty about. After this, he worked as a plastic surgeon in New York City for several years, was fired for an unknown reason. The summer before starting college, Connor and a friend were arrested for attempting to buy drugs from an undercover cop. While Cornelius pulled some strings and got Connor off, his friend did not and died of an overdose before Connor could make amends.

Cornelius never accepted Connor's refusal to participate in the family business and criticized his son's medical skills as often as possible. Crockett Marcel

Dr. Crockett Marcel (born Darioush Jahanbani) is an attending physician in General Surgery and member of the board at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. He was portrayed by Dominic Rains. He was occasionally seen keeping a bottle of alcohol in his hospital locker, as well as liberally indulging in alcohol at parties. He somewhat came down to earth after opening up to his co-workers about the untimely death of his young daughter Harper. He immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana when he was two years old. His family changed their last name to Marcel because it was popular in the region they were in and changed his name to Crockett because his father was a fan of Miami Vice and named him after the character Sonny Crockett. The family spoke Farsi at home, allowing him to become fluent in it, and overtime he built up a Southern Cajun style accent fluent around the Gulf Coast. He had a daughter named Harper who died of Leukemia shortly after her first birthday. Crockett donated bone marrow in an attempt to save her, but it was unsuccessful. Her death left a deep scar on Crockett and likely caused him to develop his cavalier attitude to life and his work, making him prone to taking risks and disinclined to form close relationships with those around him. When Natalie Manning finds out about his daughter, he implores her to keep the knowledge to herself for fear of people looking at him differently.
