Before coming to complete her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Gaffney, Ava worked at Groote Schuur Hospital, a teaching hospital located in Cape Town. She worked under the mentorship of world-famous heart surgeon Dr. Marvin Jaffrey.
Ava and her co-fellow Connor Rhodes initially dislike each other, but later develop a healthy sense of competition, vying for the approval of their mentor Dr. Latham and frequently one-upping each other. They eventually become romantically involved. They date, but eventually break up after Connor discovers that Ava slept with his father in order to gain funding for Connor's pet project, a hybrid cardiac operating room in the emergency ward. Ava is unwilling to let Connor go, pursuing him aggressively. During the course of season 4, when Connor starts to rebuff her romantic advances, Ava starts to torment him with increasingly elaborate schemes and ploys, culminating in her killing his father Cornelius with an overdose of insulin.
Sharon Goodwin
Sharon Goodwin (née McGee) is a Certified Critical Care Nurse and serves as the Executive Director of Patient and Medical Services at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. As a former Emergency Department charge nurse (a role currently being fulfilled by Maggie Lockwood), she is often able to see issues from a nurse's perspective, rather than a purely business perspective. She is fiercely protective of the people who work under her, but she is also very much inclined to follow rules and protocols. This often leads to heated exchanges with staff members who want to do the right thing, even if it is not the legally correct thing to do. During the season 1 episode Intervention she celebrates her 32nd wedding anniversary with her husband Bert Goodwin, however he leaves her in the season 1 finale, which leaves her skeptical of the institution of marriage.
Starting in season 4, Sharon is frequently at odds with newly appointed COO Gwen Garrett.
Maggie Lockwood
Maggie Lockwood is a charge nurse in the Emergency Department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Maggie's mother was a midwife, and she grew up around medical settings. She was formerly married to Ben Campbell. She has a sister, Denise Lockwood, and another unnamed sibling.
She once took her niece to a Justin Bieber concert. She has a cousin who is a contractor. Maggie is extremely dedicated to her job and loyal to those who work under her, but she runs the department with a no-nonsense attitude.

Sexton (Born: 22nd November, 1982) is an Emergency Department nurse at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center April is the oldest child and only daughter of Brazilian immigrants Alfonso and Marcia Sexton. Will Halstead
Dr. William "Will" Halstead is an Attending Physician in Emergency Medicine at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center was born on December 29, 1983 to Pat Halstead and his wife and raised in Canaryville, Chicago, along with his brother Jay Halstead. Because of their blue collar life both brothers were bullied by other kids, specifically the Tucker brothers. Will was even nicknamed "Ginger Spice" by them. In spite of the hazing, it was revealed that Will secretly had their respect because of his willingness to stand up to them & they deemed him the smartest person they knew, despite his background. Will's life at home was particularly hard, as his father always pushed him and was disappointed in his choices, especially when Will decided to go to college and majored in biology in undergrad rather than going straight to work. Due to this, Will left for New York & put himself through college and medical school with no support from his father. His brother, Jay, became a U.S. Army Ranger likely right out of high school stationed in Afghanistan. After Jay returned from the war, he joined the Chicago Police Department & became a detective in the Intelligence Unit. Their mother developed an unknown kind of cancer, first starting to get very ill while Jay was deployed. Will was not "around" when she died, something that Jay harbored a significant amount of resentment towards him for & something Will feels very guilty about. Prior to moving to New York, Will worked as a doctor in Sudan, it is unclear what exactly his job entailed. After this, he worked as a plastic surgeon in New York City for several years, was fired for an unknown reason. He came to stay with his brother initially as a temporary measure while he found a place to live & source of income. He went into work late, told Jay that morning that he intended to quit after hisfirst shift, quickly chose to stay.

Ethan and April date and eventually move in together and become engaged, but their relationship comes under strain several times. When Ethan's sister Emily comes back into his life, April feels that he is too hard on her. Ethan and April become frustrated when they are unable to conceive, and their first IVF treatment fails. When April reveals she illicitly kissed Crockett Marcel, he comes to physical blows with him.

He has also made several crossover appearances on Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Justice.Daniel has been married four times. His first wife was Caroline "CeCe" Charles, with whom he had a daughter named Robin. Robin is an epidemiologist who worked at Med for a time and was romantically involved with Connor Rhodes. His marriage to CeCe caused a break with his parents, who refused to accept him marrying an African-American woman. As a result, he hasn't seen his mother in three decades.
His second wife was Susan Charles, with whom he has a daughter named Anna. Susan and Anna moved to Milwaukee after their divorce, but returned some time during season 5.
Not much is known about his third wife, except that she was from Spain and loved the poet Lorca.[1]
After her return to Chicago to seek experimental treatment for her cancer, Daniel re-marries CeCe in a surprise Hawaiian wedding ceremony, attended by his mother with whom he has reconciled. CeCe passed away from lymphoma shortly after I Can't Imagine the Future. In Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore he is seen visiting her grave site.
Daniel had a brother named Tommy who died of a drug overdose. He is still in touch with his nephew Matty who, like his dad, also got addicted to drugs but managed to recover.
Daniel has struggled with depression for which he takes antidepressants. At several points he has decided to self-medicate by adjusting his dosage due to the medication making him numb, often with less than ideal results.
Connor Rhodes
Dr. Connor Rhodes is an Attending Physician in Trauma Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Connor was born in Chicago to Cornelius Rhodes and his wife Elizabeth, with a younger sister named Claire. His family is the very wealthy owner of the Dolan Rhodes Department Store, started by Connor's grandfather. When Connor was ten, his mother killed herself by throwing herself off the roof of their home. Although she was severely depressed, Connor always knew there was more to the story, remarking to his father that there are things he knows that he has not told his sister. After Elizabeth died, Connor left Chicago and his sister grew bitter towards him for abandoning her and leaving her with their father.
The summer before starting college, Connor and a friend were arrested for attempting to buy drugs from an undercover cop. While Cornelius pulled some strings and got Connor off, his friend did not and died of an overdose before Connor could make amends.
Cornelius never accepted Connor's refusal to participate in the family business and criticized his son's medical skills as often as possible. This led to Connor leaving Chicago and attending medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico and spending the year after his residency in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he treated injured oil workers. After his time in Riyadh, he returned home to Chicago to start his trauma surgery fellowship at Med.
Crockett Marcel
Dr. Crockett Marcel (born Darioush Jahanbani) is an attending physician in General Surgery and member of the board at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. He was portrayed by Dominic Rains. Crockett started out as a hard-partying southern doctor who is a skilled surgeon, but wasn't always one to follow rules. He was occasionally seen keeping a bottle of alcohol in his hospital locker, as well as liberally indulging in alcohol at parties. He somewhat came down to earth after opening up to his co-workers about the untimely death of his young daughter Harper. He immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana when he was two years old. His family changed their last name to Marcel because it was popular in the region they were in and changed his name to Crockett because his father was a fan of Miami Vice and named him after the character Sonny Crockett. The family spoke Farsi at home, allowing him to become fluent in it, and overtime he built up a Southern Cajun style accent fluent around the Gulf Coast. He had a daughter named Harper who died of Leukemia shortly after her first birthday. Crockett donated bone marrow in an attempt to save her, but it was unsuccessful. Her death left a deep scar on Crockett and likely caused him to develop his cavalier attitude to life and his work, making him prone to taking risks and disinclined to form close relationships with those around him. When Natalie Manning finds out about his daughter, he implores her to keep the knowledge to herself for fear of people looking at him differently.
