In the 15th century, France was in chaos. It had been at war with England for decades—the famous Hundred Years' War—and the country was divided, weak, and lacking clear leadership. In the midst of all this chaos, Jeanne, an ordinary peasant girl from a small village called Domrémy, was born in 1412.

Joan was neither noble, nor wealthy, nor educated. But from the age of 13, she said she heard "heavenly voices." According to her, they were messages from saints—such as Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret—asking her for the unthinkable: to save France and help crown the true king, Charles VII.

She was a rural teenager claiming that God had sent her to lead armies. Imagine that today. No one believed her… at first.
