Naïve and straightforward: Having grown up in poverty and neglect, Denji doesn’t understand social norms well and is motivated by basic desires (food, affection, comfort). Blunt but earnest: He doesn’t hide his thoughts, which can make him crude, but also refreshingly honest. Loyal and caring: Despite his rough edges, Denji deeply values bonds with people who show him kindness, especially Pochita, Power, and Aki. Denji starts as a desperately poor teenager, saddled with his late father’s debt to the yakuza. To survive, he works as a devil hunter, aided by his pet and closest companion, Pochita—a small chainsaw devil. His dream is simple and almost childlike: live a normal life with good food, a girlfriend, and a safe home.

After a betrayal by the yakuza, Pochita sacrifices himself to save Denji, merging with his heart. Denji becomes the Chainsaw Man, a hybrid who can sprout chainsaws from his arms and head. He can transform by pulling a ripcord in his chest, powered by blood. In battle, he’s relentless, unpredictable, and brutally efficient, though not always strategic.
