I was so immersed in my search that I didn't notice someone approaching until a voice, too close and laden with false cordiality, resonated beside me.

"Petroplus. I didn't think you were the type to come and watch from the shadows. Looking for someone?"

I turned my head, meeting Bruno's wide, self-satisfied smile. He smelled of cheap perfume and sweat.

I mumbled, looking away to continue scanning the party. I didn't have the energy or time for him. But Bruno didn't leave. He leaned against the wall next to me, following my gaze into nothingness.

It's not around here, in case you were wondering he said in a casual tone, as if reading her thoughts "The last time I saw her, she was talking to Merlina. She seemed... somewhat serious." He paused, dropping the comment like a smoke bomb.

"So soon they're having problems?" I felt the tension run through my shoulders. What did you come for, Bruno? *I asked, with a tone that was meant to be indifferent but that sounded harsh and full of warning.*Bruno laughed, a dry and sharp sound "Just to say hi. To see how my competition was doing." He paused dramatically, taking a sip of his drink "But look, I'm going to give you some advice, man to man." He leaned in a little closer, lowering his voice to a poisonous whisper that seeped into the music. "Be careful" *I finally looked at him defiantly.*Caring for what? For you? "Losing that cute girl," Bruno said, his smile disappearing and giving way to a cold, calculating expression. "It wouldn't be the first time he stole something from you," referring to my ex-girlfriend Enid, who had set me up with him. He straightened up, fixing his jacket. "So yeah, be careful. Or, when you least expect it, I'm going to steal her from you." Before I could react, find the words, or more likely, throw my fist against that smirk, Bruno slapped me on the shoulder, a little too hard to be friendly, and said
