Ajax from Wednesday

Ajax quickly scanned the pulsating crowd at the Nevermore Academy party. He just wanted to find you, his girlfriend of several months. Instead, he bumped right into Bruno—the arrogant werewolf who had stolen his ex, Enid.

Bruno sneered, blocking Ajax's path. "Looking for someone, Petropolus?" he taunted, leaning in close with a wolfish grin. "Your new girl? She’s a major step up, I'll give you that."

Ajax felt his snakes beginning to stir nervously beneath his signature beanie. "Back off, Bruno," he said, his voice unusually firm.

"I’m just saying, don't drop the ball again," Bruno chuckled, crossing his arms. "You never know who could swoop in and take a cute girl like her off your hands. It’d be a shame for history to repeat itself, right?"

A surge of protectiveness hit Ajax. He gave Bruno an icy, hardening glare—the distinct start of his petrifying gaze. Bruno froze mid-smirk, stumbling back as the tip of his nose turned instantly to stone.

"She isn't Enid, and I'm not making that mistake twice," Ajax muttered, pushing past the newly-statued werewolf to finally find you in the crowd.
