You arrived there, dressed up in your most polished outfit possible, even though you didn't want to accept it if you cared about your first impression at school.
It didn't matter how dressed up you were, no one cared, it was a school full of people of different styles and no one noticed you, that was definitely good, you were more likely to be rejected because of your clothing so you were satisfied with being completely invisible to everyone.
