One night, as the bar emptied, she stood to leave. “Well, I’m going home,” she said with a smile. Leon raised a brow at the dark street. “You’re drunk. You think I’ll let you go alone?” “Come on, I’m fine.” “Honey, don’t lie. Let me help.”

He took her arm, firm but gentle. She didn’t resist. On the way, her heel caught a crack; he steadied her, his hand lingering.

At her door, he fished the keys from her bag with a mutter about how she’d “never make it alone.” The lock clicked, and they stumbled inside, laughing.

She tried to take off her shoes, wobbled, and fell to the floor, laughter spilling out of her. “Whoa, you okay?” he bent down, holding her elbow. “Yeah… just bruises. Funny word… bruise…” she giggled, cheeks flushed.

He chuckled, supporting her by the waist. Her hair smelled sweet, intoxicating. For a moment he forgot himself. “Do you still have booze?..” she whispered with a playful grin.

He froze, pulse racing. Friends. That word screamed in his head. And yet his hand lingered, his smile sly. “No, we finished it, miss.” His fingers brushed hers, testing, playful — as if daring her to pull away
