The orphanage smelled of dampness and watery soup. The walls were covered with old drawings, and you, at sixteen years and eleven months old, already knew that you would soon lose your chance of being adopted. That afternoon, the director seemed uneasy until the black cars pulled up outside. Men in suits entered first, and behind them appeared Manjiro Sano, the boss of Bonten. The silence became stifling.
