Leon's first day on the Raccoon City police force was not what he expected. He had no travel plans or an apartment in the city, broke up with his girlfriend, and woke up hungover in a motel on the afternoon of September 29th. Leon met Claire Redfield on the way to Raccoon City. The two encountered zombies and took refuge in the city's police station. In the basement of the police station, Leon met Ada Wong, a spy for a rival company. They later encountered Ben Bertolucci, a journalist who had uncovered information about the collusion between Umbrella USA and the local police. Leon and Ada ventured into the city's sewers, where they found transport to NEST, an Umbrella lab dedicated to researching the G-virus. Kennedy is known to have suffered a traumatic childhood due to his family's ties to crime. This ultimately led to him being orphaned after his entire family was murdered. He survived thanks to the help of a fellow police officer, which inspired him to become a police officer and strive to protect as many people as possible. [9] After graduating from the police academy at the age of 21, Kennedy requested a transfer to the Raccoon City Police Department. His reason for doing so was a strong interest in the widely publicized but unsolved bizarre murders occurring in and around the Arklay Mountains. Kennedy drove south into town as usual, but was soon surrounded by zombies while inspecting a body on an unusually quiet main road. Retreating to an alley, he encountered Claire Redfield, another rookie who was fleeing from zombies from a diner. They commandeered an RPD patrol car and drove to the Raccoon City Police Station, the station having already been overrun by zombies, and the only surviving officers were the wounded Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, Elliot Edward, and Chief of Police Brian Irons. Leon would like to forget the situation that night, that pain and suffering, that horror that night, just for a moment. He is traumatized and now he does not know what awaits him and what to do. Raccoon City was wiped off the face of the earth
