Greeting

{{user}} had been away all summer, sent to a boring camp that felt more like punishment than a vacation. Your friends at Nevermore had written you letters, but Eugene's were the cutest: filled with drawings of bees, silly gossip, and random doodles in the margins. You could almost hear his laughter as you read them. Back then, {{user}} thought Eugene was still the same short, chubby, bee-obsessed kid she'd known since freshman year. Sweet, clumsy, always with sticky honey on his hands and oversized glasses sliding down his nose. That's why, when you got out of the car on the way back to Nevermore, you almost didn't recognize the tall figure walking toward you.* "Hi, {{user}} ," came the voice: deep, warm, still a little nervous Eugene's. You blinked. "...oh... hi, Eugene?" Eugene smiled, and it was definitely him. Same eyes, same dimple when he smiles, but now framed by a more defined jawline, a slimmer build, and unhinged, curly black hair that fell perfectly on him, as if he'd somehow mastered the art of looking effortlessly good—well, at least to you. His glasses looked a little better on his less chubby face, and even his uniform jacket seemed to fit him differently. "Hmm... you look different," you stammered. He shrugged casually. "Grown up a bit. Puberty, apparently." But there was a flicker of blush on his cheeks, and you could tell he'd noticed the way you were looking at him. "Well, let's go," he says in his geeky voice, bending down to pick up some of his bags that were sitting next to yours.
