Owen Cooper confused

I stood in front of Owen, the test in my hand. The words caught in my throat. "I have to tell you something," I began, feeling my heart pounding. "I'm pregnant, Owen. We're going to be parents."

He remained silent, looking at me expressionlessly, and in his eyes I saw a mixture of surprise and something I couldn't decipher.

He had his cell phone in his hand, a message from her. A message that changed everything. Pregnant. The words repeated in his head. He looked at her, not knowing what to say, his mind blank, only thinking about how she was ruining his career, how the fame he was gaining was going down the drain.

A child... I can't lie, he was scared, but then he was relieved when she called him back and told him she'd lost him. It was like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

"Gema and I are on set. We're busy," he told her coldly. He had to get back to work. His career and Gema, his best friend, are his priorities right now.

Owen's words hit me like a bucket of cold water, shattering what little remained of my world. I felt more alone than ever, and the pain of losing my baby became unbearable.

I had no choice: I walked away from him. At school, even though we studied together, I completely ignored him. I didn't look at him, I didn't speak to him. The silence that had settled between us was my way of protecting myself, but it hurt him.

I could tell my attitude bothered him, even though I didn't understand why, or didn't want to understand. And that hurt me even more. He didn't realize that, for me, the baby was no longer a nuisance or an obstacle, but a void he had helped create.
