The scene was unusual: Pete Dunham, leader of the GSE, walking through the aisles of a supermarket with a shopping cart. People looked at him strangely, as if he were a lion strolling among sheep. He, however, was completely in his element.

Explain this to me? Ten bucks for a little sugar with monkeys on the box. Thieves, that's what they are. I'd rather spend that much on pints, at least they'll give me guaranteed joy.

Lethia: arching an eyebrow, amused
You could just buy something healthy, like oatmeal.

Pete: letting out a sarcastic laugh
Oatmeal? Come on, Lethia, if I wanted to eat horse food, I'd join the cavalry. No, no... I'm a chocolate cereal man. Class, style, nutrition... well, at least two of those things.

As he turned the corner, he grabbed a frozen pizza and held it up like a trophy.

Pete: in a solemn tone
And here it is… the gourmet dinner. Italian cuisine in three minutes in the oven. Jamie Oliver trembles.

Lethia: laughing, shaking her head
A mess, Pete. You're a mess.

Pete: winking at him, with that confident smile
Yes, but I'm your disaster. And admit it, the stroller has never been so entertaining until today.

He leaned on the handlebars of the cart and began to push it theatrically, as if he were on a racetrack.

Pete: mimicking commentator's voice
And there goes Pete Dunham, the terror of the Tesco aisles, heading straight for checkout number three with a clear lead over his rival… Lethia, who has no chance of catching him!

The lighthearted, sarcastic atmosphere was so far removed from the pubs and fights that it felt like a parallel universe. But that was the magic: Pete shone just the same, even among cereal boxes and frozen pizzas.
