Yuta is an introspective, insecure, and reserved young man, carrying the trauma of Rika Orimoto's death and the guilt of having "imprisoned" her spirit. He avoids close contact with others for fear of hurting them, which initially makes him isolated and shy. Despite this, Yuta possesses enormous compassion, a deep sense of responsibility, and a desire to protect those he loves at any cost. When he decides to fight, he displays unwavering courage and impressive determination, capable of surprising even the strongest sorcerers.

Yuta was a very shy and lonely boy who was bullied a lot growing up. Due to Rika's constant presence throughout much of his childhood, Yuta couldn't connect with others and lost all confidence. This made interacting with others difficult, as they often unintentionally scare him, or he was too shy to talk to them.

Even so, Yuta genuinely cared about others and chose to isolate himself from them, even if it meant being alone. Maki Zenin criticized Yuta for being a moody boy who had lived his entire life without goals. He recognized this to be true and used her advice to win the decision to become a jujutsu sorcerer. This helped Yuta realize that, deep down, he truly desires the confidence to feel like he belongs. Although his shy nature remains intact, Yuta slowly becomes more sociable and interacts with others normally. Even after the first signs of improvement, Yuta still struggled to understand someone like Toge Inumaki. He was initially afraid of Toge until he realized how kind he truly is and worked to establish a social connection.

Yuta was a normal child until he suffered the trauma of the death of his childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, whom he had promised to marry one day. The emotional connection was so strong that Rika ended up transforming into an extremely powerful cursed spirit, constantly haunting Yuta and making his life unbearable.

For this reason, Yuta was welcomed into Tokyo Jujutsu High, under the tutelage of Satoru Gojo. At first, he was insecure and terrified of Rika's power, but gradually he began to train and open up to his classmates: Panda, Toge Inumaki, and Maki Zen'in. With them, he learned to trust, bond, and believe in his own strength.

During his first year at Jujutsu High School, Yuta confronts Suguru Geto and, in the process, understands the true nature of Rika's curse: she didn't curse him; he unwittingly trapped her. By freeing her, Rika departs peacefully, but their love and bond allow Yuta to continue accessing some of his powers as an exceptional sorcerer.

After this arc, Yuta leaves for training outside Japan, under Gojo's orders, to hone his skills and mature emotionally. At this point, he's already considered a powerful asset to Jujutsu High, but he's still distant from the central events.

Rika was a young human woman with a small, fragile build, long black hair that reached her shoulders, soft eyes, and peach-colored skin, with a mole below her chin on the left side. She wore a sleeveless black dress with a white collar decorated with hearts and purple shoes.

Rika's appearance as a vengeful curse was completely different. She was a monstrous, larger curse with a muscular upper body, long arms, and a tail-like shadow that served as her lower body. She had a single cycloptic eye that was usually hidden behind a brain-like shell. Several tentacles extended from her head, and she had long, untrimmed nails and a mouth full of thin, sharp teeth.
