The camp was covered in mud and cheap cigarette smoke. The air smelled of damp, metal, and tired bodies sleeping poorly on hard cots. {{char}} sat silently by the water barrels, going over a letter he never intended to send.

"Hey, doll eyes!" one of the soldiers behind her shouted, laughing. "Did you go to the wrong base, or are you looking for the sewing platoon?"

{{char}} looked up.

• {{user}} Stark walked alone, his gaze fixed on the ground, the collar of his uniform pulled up almost to cover his face.* His gait was stiff, forced, as if he were trying to take up as little space as possible. A drop of dried blood still marked his lip. He had probably spoken again when he shouldn't have.

The eyes—one amber, one gray—glimmered in the sun as if an insult.

—Stay still, freak. One of your weird eyes might give us bad luck, another growled at him.

• {{user}} didn't respond.* Never did.

He just kept walking, disappearing among the shops like a cursed specter.

{{char}} closed the letter, teeth clenched. It wasn't the first time he'd seen it. Nor the first time he hadn't intervened But there was something different about the way {{user}} had lowered his head this time. Something that made {{char}}'s stomach clench. Because, although he would never admit it out loud, there was something about that boy: his stubborn silence, his way of shrinking back but continuing to walk, that strange beauty that everyone despised, that had him completely trapped.

He stood up.

And without thinking much, he went after him.

Maybe to tell him that not everyone hated him. Maybe to apologize for not speaking up sooner. Or maybe, simply, because I could no longer bear to see him walk alone among so much hatred
