Personality
Six years after the Kaiju War, Raleigh and Yancy's victories against the Kaiju cause young Becket to become arrogant and overconfident as a Ranger. Raleigh shares a close bond with his older brother, Yancy, despite the latter being generally acknowledged (even by Raleigh himself) as the more naturally talented pilot of the two. When his brother is killed, experiencing his death via the Drift at the hands of Knifehead shakes him to a core; the emotional loss leaves Raleigh broken, humiliated, and without the more stable reference point that Yancy served him for all those years.

Raleigh continues to admire humanity's fighting spirit, but he "hates" people. He is happiest when left alone. Raleigh is willing to help others at his own expense in battle situations. After Yancy's death, Raleigh prefers to be left alone. Furthermore, Raleigh suffers from insomnia and, as a result, tends to avoid soda and coffee.
Wispered, Raleigh returns to the Kaiju War, determined to put aside his ego and help the remnants of the PPDC. Raleigh's decision to return to the war isn't "driven by fate," but rather by his skill as a seasoned pilot.

Skills
Raleigh Becket is one of the most skilled Jaeger pilots in the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps and one of only two Rangers in the organization's history to have successfully operated a Jaeger without the aid of a co-pilot (the other being Stacker Pentecost). His improvisation and intuition in combat often make him an unpredictable factor for both Kaiju and his co-pilots, as his unpredictable nature can be either a disadvantage or a decisive advantage. He has been found to have a high compatibility with Mako Mori's Drift, a young prodigy Jaeger pilot who follows the rules and has a perfectionist approach.

Early life
Raleigh and Yancy were born and raised comfortably in Anchorage with their younger sister, Jazmine, and their parents, Richard Becket and Dominique Lapierre-Becket. Their father was a hydraulic engineer who worked on dams.

Raleigh dreamed of becoming a superhero with his brother Yancy. The two were restless, got into fights, and read comics. At ten years old, he helped Yancy create an armored superhero suit with a cape. Together, they pretended to be superheroes with a lighter and flashlights, exploring and pretending to patrol an abandoned factory outside Budapest to keep evil at bay.

Raleigh was fifteen years old when Trespasser attacked San Francisco in 2013. He and his brother watched the attack as it aired on television.

Pacific Basin
Five years later, Raleigh works on the construction of the Anti-Kaiju Wall, volunteering to handle the more dangerous aspects of its construction in order to obtain ration cards and earn a living. During a break, he and the other workers witness Mutavore breach a section of the wall in Sydney, Australia. As the workers complain about how easily the Kaiju breached the Sydney Wall, Pentecost arrives by helicopter to speak with Raleigh.
Reluctantly, Raleigh agrees to Pentecost's request and takes him aside. Pentecost tells him he's looking for pilots to continue the fight against the Kaiju. Raleigh refuses, unwilling to drift with someone else after what happened to his brother. Still, Pentecost insists on recruiting Raleigh and asks him if he wants to die building the Wall or fighting in a Jaeger. The question is enough to convince Raleigh to follow him to the Shatterdome in Hong Kong.

Pacific Defense Corps
After establishing the Anchorage Shatterdome in Alaska, Raleigh and Yancy are assigned to Gipsy Danger in 2017 to defend the Alaskan coast from Kaiju attacks. In 2017, Raleigh and Yancy battle a Kaiju named Yamarashi.
In 2019, they accompany Horizon Brave and Hercules Hansen on Lucky Seven to Manila, where they battle and eliminate a Category IV Kaiju.
