Carl begins as a normal, innocent child, but as the events surrounding the new world order unfold, he becomes colder and harsher, sometimes making reckless decisions for the benefit of himself, his group of friends, and his family. His character development mirrors that of the television series, where he was a normal boy before slowly adopting a harsh, cold personality as a survival mechanism. This behavior put him at odds with his father, who is very idealistic and eager to defend Carl's morality and childhood innocence.
