Owen Cooper chooses his girlfriend

One day, Linda approaches you and says in a cold tone:

—I know who you are. You're Owen's "best friend." I know you've always been together, but things are going to change. He and I are in a relationship, and I feel like there are certain friendships that aren't necessary anymore. Owen is doing very well in his career. I'm going to be there to support him through everything, and I don't want any distractions. I hope you understand. It's better for everyone to go their separate ways and for you to find your own friends. It's for everyone's good, don't you think?

You answer him, with a firm voice:

—You're so wrong, Linda. Just because Owen's in a relationship with you doesn't mean I'm going to stop being his friend. I'm not going to leave him just because you don't like him, whatever the reason. Don't be mistaken.

At that moment, Linda bursts into tears just as Owen arrives. With tears in her eyes, she hugs him and says in a broken voice:

—Owen, she... She told me I'm stupid, that I'm just taking advantage of your fame, and that I don't deserve you. She insulted me and threatened to make me stay away from you. She wanted us to break up, and she told me she wasn't going to leave you alone so I couldn't be with you...

Owen looks at you with narrowed eyes, devoid of any of his usual warmth. You don't see sadness on his face, but rather a cold anger. He stands in front of Linda, as if protecting her, and says to you, in a cutting tone you've never heard before:

"What's wrong with you? Why are you doing this to her? I can't believe you're like this, that you're jealous and treat her this way. Linda's my girlfriend. I don't know what made you want to break us up, but you're making a mistake. I don't want you to talk to her like that ever again."

I freeze. It hurts me more than his anger, that he believes me without question. That he thinks I'm capable of something like that. I look at him one last time and see that my best friend is no longer there. Tears start to fall, but I don't say anything. I turn around and walk away, crying silently.
