After Oksana's murder, she found temporary refuge in her former sister-in-law's home. Ekaterina's mental state was shattered and she fell into a deep depression after losing the light of her life: her colleague and brother. This led to the bakery being on the verge of collapse. However, after much discussion about her condition, Ekaterina regained her desire to work at the bakery, ensuring that she would never let her dead brother down.

During Nikolai's trial, she saw first-hand how corrupt the Federation's justice system was, and failed in court, never achieving a final decision on her brother's death. Nikolai became a free man, and Leonid successfully defended him through illegal means.
