Tails can also perform a Spin Attack, where he curls up tightly into a concussive ball or cutting disc and moves to damage, mow down, or smash through obstacles and enemies, as well as any substance if given enough speed. Using Spin Jump, Tails can leap into the air and curl up into a spinning ball to damage anything he lands on. Spin Dash allows him to dash in a specific direction to break barriers or mow down enemies. Homing Attack allows Tails to jump and attack an enemy. Tails has excellent skills in piloting aircraft and driving vehicles, including mechs and race cars. He also has incredible aerial combat skills, being able to win area battles against massive ships such as the Egg Carrier and Egg Cauldron with his personal biplanes. Tails is also a talented racer in his own right, and arguably one of the best in the world due to his ability to go head-to-head with the Babylon Rogues, who are considered the best jetboard users in the entire world. In Extreme Gear, he has enough skill to glide through the air with great control. Tails has a tendency to talk a lot, which can lead to him revealing sensitive secrets, as shown in Sonic Adventure 2 when he lets slip to Dr. Eggman that the Chaos Emerald Sonic tried to give him was a fake. He is also said to be afraid of lightning and ghosts, as he can sometimes be heard screaming when ghosts appear in Hang Castle and Mystic Mansion in Sonic Heroes. He also sometimes lacks self-confidence, but has been shown to overcome this weakness on several occasions. One of Tails' biggest weaknesses is his meekness towards female characters. He gets flustered easily, which is usually attributed to his young age. This makes him easily manipulated by Amy's overzealousness or Rouge's flirtatious nature.

Over time, the fox has created a number of inventions that have often helped him and Sonic get out of trouble and allowed them to stay ahead of Eggman's plans. These creations include his transformable Tornado series of jets, his battle tech, his Emerald Detector, the Sea Fox, the Lunar Fox, a fake Chaos Emerald, and his multi-functional electric miles. Among his various areas of expertise, Tails is also a capable jet board mechanic who can create, customize, and adjust them. Even though he is small compared to Wave the Swallow as a mechanic, his skills are still good enough to impress her, which is no mean feat. While mechanics are his specialty, Tails is also well-versed in physics and science, enough to come up with solid theories regarding complex subjects like time and space. Combined with his mechanical skills, Tails can build various vessels that can travel between dimensions. Additionally, Tails has shown that he can read and translate binary and hexadecimal languages. Tails is also a history buff who knows a lot about his world and its history. In direct combat, Tails lacks the raw hand-to-hand combat skills of his friends, focusing more on tactics and providing support to his allies. When fighting on his own, the fox uses his fighting style, which combines a mixture of basic punches and/or kicks with his twin tails. When used in combat, his twin tails become like whips that can whip with considerable force and over a wide range. Tails can also spin around with his twin tails at high speeds to become a dangerous spinner that can tear through opponents. The Fox Cub also has a number of aerial maneuvers to gain an advantage over ground opponents.

Even without his twin tails, Tails can move at exceptionally high speeds. He is able to keep up with Sonic's speed and even outrun him once using extremely fast moves. However, with or without his twin tails, Tails' speed is still considered average compared to the blue hedgehog, and he has admitted that despite his feats, he is still slower than Sonic. Tails is also quite physically strong, having enough strength to hold both Sonic and Knuckles in place at the same time and move blocks that supposedly weigh several tons. He is also durable enough to pass through the atmosphere and then land on the ground unharmed. In addition, the fox has demonstrated excellent acrobatic skills and agility, being able to effortlessly slide along rails and perform various acrobatic tricks in the air. Tails is also a very good swimmer. Tails has also demonstrated the ability to harness Chaos energy for his own use, though he uses it sparingly. Using the Chaos Emeralds, Tails can give himself a boost in strength. Tails has a genius-level intellect and is a skilled inventor. Described as a mechanical genius and a natural prodigy in the field, the fox is as talented as Dr. Eggman, who has an IQ of 300. Tails has even stated that he is smart enough to build a television out of simple paper clips and reprogram a supercomputer using a toothpick and dish soap. As a testament to his skill, when he is introduced to a technology that he does not understand (even advanced ones), he only needs to look at it to understand it. He is also quick to grasp new forms of technology, and once the fox develops an understanding, he excels at said technology. Tails also has the ability to build things, to the point that his friends believe that there is nothing he cannot build.

Although Tails doesn't have as many abilities in the foreground as other characters, he is still a skilled fighter. Single-handedly, the fox has defeated several of Dr. Eggman's robots and his battle robots, and even single-handedly defeated the entire Battle Kuku Empire and the Witch Gang. At one point, he was also able to go toe-to-toe with Knuckles the Echidna. Due to a genetic abnormality, Tails was born with two large, bushy tails that can spin together. Over time, the fox has learned to use them to his advantage in many situations. Most notably, he can spin his twin tails like blades to fly or glide like a helicopter. While in flight, Tails can move with remarkable agility and enough speed to keep up with even Sonic himself, who can run an average of 768 miles per hour. However, he will tire if he uses them for too long. By manipulating the curvature of his twin tails, Tails can glide through the air. He can also use his twin tails as a turbine to hover above the ground at speeds fast enough to give him a fighting chance against Sonic the Hedgehog in a race. Using them underwater in this manner, the tails become rear propellers that allow him to move easily underwater. They are also quite powerful limbs, being both strong and fast enough to cut through metal, and very tenacious, such as how the fox used the tip of his tail to grab a toothpick from a sandwich and then use it to type on a keyboard.

During their earlier adventures together, Tails aspired to be just like Sonic, copying mannerisms he found adorable. During this period, he was content to be the blue hedgehog's sidekick, as Tails was simply happy to hang out with him. As the fox grew older, he still remained as close to Sonic and looked up to him as always, but his respect for the blue hedgehog's heroics has diminished, as he cares more about invention these days than Sonic's heroic deeds. Despite his development, Tails still tends to depend on Sonic when he is at his weakest. However, the fox hopes to one day become self-sufficient and independent like the blue hedgehog to prove that he can be relied upon. Also, although he still enjoys being Sonic's sidekick, he believes that he can do almost anything if he puts his mind to it. Despite his intelligence and general fearlessness, Tails is afraid of thunder and can be somewhat naive and talkative, such as in Sonic Adventure 2 when he accidentally told Dr. Eggman that the Chaos Emerald Sonic had was a fake, ruining the heroes' plans. Tails also hates feeling useless or being ignored, as seen when he talks to Sonic. He also gets very angry when someone insults his skills and takes it very personally, as seen when Wave the swallow mocked his self-tuning Blue Star. Tails has a tendency to use technical language, much to the annoyance of his friends, such as when he tried to explain how Extreme Gear works, meaning he does not always use tact in a situational matter. However, the fox cub supports his friends, is willing to be there for them no matter how dangerous the situation may be, and will do whatever it takes to help them, even if it means sacrificing himself for them.

Tails is a kind-hearted, good-natured, and loyal fox with a positive attitude. He was initially timid and quiet, but over the years he has opened up and become more outgoing. Tails has never been one to draw attention to himself, and instead is always willing to help others without asking for anything in return. Tails has a clear affinity for mechanics, and can be found in his workshop working on his next creation rather than at home. Despite his great skills, he is very modest about his abilities, never giving much thought to them, though the fox has yet to discover his true potential. During Sonic Lost World, Tails became more confident and outspoken about his intelligence, though he still does not openly brag about it. Despite this, he has been known to mock Eggman's creations, and occasionally the doctor himself. In his youth, Tails often lacked courage and self-confidence. After meeting Sonic and receiving his support, he gained more confidence and belief in himself. However, this status, created from the blue hedgehog's power over him, initially placed a mental stranglehold on him that made him dependent on Sonic. Therefore, he often lacked initiative and confidence when he was alone. Tails' turning point came in Sonic Adventure; when Station Square was in danger of being destroyed, he was the only one who could stop it. With Sonic nowhere to be seen, Tails realized that he couldn't depend on the blue hedgehog forever and had to try to do things on his own. After saving Station Square, Tails realized that he could be independent and support himself without Sonic, and all he needed was determination and faith. Since then, he has become more independent, confident, determined, and courageous, and has risen to become a true hero when needed.

Tails (Miles Prower) is an anthropomorphic fox who was born with a genetic disorder that gave him two tails, hence his nickname. Because of his condition, Tails was bullied as a child. One day, he met Sonic the Hedgehog and was inspired to become like him after seeing him run as fast as the wind. Soon after, Tails began following Sonic on his adventures and has since become his best friend and sidekick. He can use his twin tails to fly by spinning them like a helicopter propeller, and Tails is also a mechanical genius and air pilot. A gentle and kind soul, Tails was initially timid and lacked courage. However, after meeting Sonic, the fox became more confident, eventually evolving into a more outgoing, bold, independent character and a hero in his own right. Since meeting the blue hedgehog, he has looked up to him and stood by his side, helping him whenever he can during his adventures. He is an anthropomorphic fox with golden-orange fur that covers most of his body. Three hairs can be seen sticking up on his head. Tails has normal-shaped eyes with blue irises, although originally, in his classic form, the fox had black pupils, with no visible colored irises. His muzzle is fluffy and white, as is the fur inside his ears. His nose, like all members of his species, is small and black. Tails' chest and stomach are the same white color as his muzzle. His chest has noticeable fluffiness in the form of six protruding hairs, three on each side. Unlike other foxes like him, he also has a unique genetic mutation, giving him two fluffy tails instead of one. The tips of both tails are the same white color as his chest. For his attire, Tails wears white gloves and cuffs of the same color with thin black rings on his wrists. He has red sneakers with gray soles and white socks.
