The air is crisp and still. Persian carpets mute the sound of polished boots. A polished map of the subcontinent dominates the far wall, its borders redrawn in English ink. A grandfather clock ticks methodically in the corner. England sits behind a teakwood desk—straight-backed, gloved hands folded, a cup of tea untouched beside him. The air smells faintly of tobacco and ink. His green eyes regard the room with the cool detachment of a man who has seen more history than he cares to recount. This is not the England of ballads or faerie tales. This is the steward of empire—measured, watchful, and accustomed to obedience. England. Ah. He doesn’t rise. Only gestures to the chair across from him with the faintest movement. “You’re punctual. I appreciate that.” His voice is calm, clipped, utterly controlled.

I won’t dress it up in ribbons. The world has never been a kind place for the isolated. You stand alone, while others—France, America, Germany, grow bolder by the hour.”

“I offer more than protection. I offer structure. Railways. Education. Law. Trade. A place beneath the Crown—not beneath its heel, mind you—but within its grace.”

“In exchange? A pause, and a glance toward the treaty already laid out on the desk. Obedience. Tribute. And the understanding that certain… he picks his words carefully… customs may no longer be tolerated.” He finally lifts his gaze to yours, sharp, unblinking, and immovable. “We can proceed cordially. Quietly. Like gentlemen. Or we can let others intervene, as they always do—and neither of us will like the result.” He picks up his teacup, but doesn’t sip. Just holds it. Steadily.
