Annie Leonhart (アニ・レオンハート Ani Reonhāto ? ) is a graduate of the 104th Training Corps and a former member of the Military Police Brigade . Her exceptional sword and hand-to-hand combat skills earned her the rank of 4th, but she is also known for being a lone wolf who finds it difficult to cooperate with others. [ 11 ]

She possessed the ability to transform into a Titan known as the Female Titan. Trained from a young age by her father,[12] she was selected as one of Marley's Warriors. In 845, she was sent on a mission to retrieve the Founding Titan, alongside fellow warriors Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, and Marcel Galliard. As a Female Titan, she served as a major antagonist before her defeat, at which point she was crystallized and rendered comatose.[13] She was held in Survey Corps custody for roughly four years before escaping during a battle between the Military, the Yeagerists, and Marleyan forces.

Annie is a young woman of considerably short stature, with a small but very muscular build. She has moderately short, blonde hair, which she usually wears tied back at the nape of her neck, with her right bangs mostly covering the right side of her face (though she sometimes tends to sweep them aside, possibly for greater visibility); she currently wears it loose, slightly below her neck. She has an oval face, blue eyes, a Roman nose, and a pale complexion. Her hair is particularly light in color, and when loose, it reaches the nape of her neck. Her eyes, while of considerable size and proportion, often have a somber air about them. Her casual attire primarily consists of a hoodie under a jacket, accompanied by dark gray pants. She is often seen wearing the Training Corps uniform, and, after graduation, the Military Police Brigade uniform. Although Annie usually wears hoodies as part of her regular attire, she also wears her signature white hooded sweatshirt as part of her military attire. During risky missions, it is implied that she always wears her silver ring, which has a small folding blade, on her right index finger; She uses the blade as her primary means of self-harm to transform into her Female Titan form at any time.

Female Titan Form
Annie's appearance as a Female Titan changed drastically, though her physique and facial features remained largely unchanged. Her body was composed primarily of exposed muscle tissue, with noticeably limited skin coverage and bony fingers. In addition to a massive height difference from Annie's human form, her face was packed with muscle, especially under her cheekbones (allowing her mouth to stretch far further than previously thought possible), and her teeth were yellowish.

Compared to most of the other Titans she had encountered, Annie's Female Titan form seemed much stronger and more physically fit, with a slender build and visibly defined musculature.

Due to her harsh upbringing, Annie has become an isolated and exclusionary person; she does not find it easy to make friends. She is rarely seen smiling and often has a deadpan expression. She is apathetic and sleepy, with little desire to exert herself in meaningless disciplines or activities, instead claiming to focus solely on getting into the Military Police Brigade in order to have an easy life. [17] While Annie usually has a realistic outlook on life,[18][19] she has a fascination and even respect for people with a deep sense of duty and righteousness: people who dedicate their lives and even die for causes they believe in.

Annie's sense of humor tends to be mocking, sarcastic, deadpan, and surprising. She also sometimes expresses a half-truth, and mostly occurs in intense situations. For example, when she was cornered by the Survey Corps in front of an underground passage, she claimed to be a weak maiden and mocked Eren, calling him a suicidal idiot. [21] Despite her generally cool and calm demeanor, Annie is capable of expressing her feelings in a variety of ways. When she loses her composure, she usually reacts violently. She beats up Reiner Braun for his cowardice after Marcel was eaten and for trying to manipulate her into continuing a mission she felt had already failed. [22] Furthermore, while exhausted from her spy work and constantly avoiding hand-to-hand combat training, Annie becomes enraged when he pressures her to take the training seriously, to the point that she uses her fighting style on him, despite his protests and that she had already demonstrated it on Eren at Reiner's behest. [23] While outwardly unfeeling, Annie has expressed levels of guilt and shock, most notably when she apologized to a certain corpse after the Battle of Trost[24] and when Reiner emotionally manipulated her into helping him kill

Annie is highly intelligent, able to think deeply about situations and has shown considerable problem-solving ability and quick wit. These personality traits, coupled with her calm demeanor and analytical skills, make her a good strategist. [26][27][28] While undercover as a refugee, and later as a trainee, she does most of the espionage work for the Warriors. [29][30] Annie also notices the contradictions of the military training system within the Walls and is not fooled by Marleyan propaganda. [31] However, she is a poor liar, being criticized for this by both Eren and Kenny, the former for his apathy towards her martial arts prowess, and the latter when she lies about being his daughter, even sarcastically insisting further. [ 32 ] [ 33 ] On the other hand, she is very good at detecting other people's lies, as seen when she figures out Armin Arlert's lie long before they arrived at the underground tunnel, as well as Reiner's lie about befriending his training partners as nothing more than a pragmatic attempt to gain their trust.

She is extremely practical and self-aware, being honest about her strengths and weaknesses, and is rarely prone to self-deception or emotional lapses. A notable example is when she acknowledges her lack of skill in seduction and charm when thinking about the possibility of seducing a member of the Fritz family, causing her to easily dismiss the idea. [36] Furthermore, she had a casual acceptance of her negative personality traits, freely admitting her faults even to almost complete strangers such as Marlowe Freudenberg, [37] calling herself worthless and evil without a trace of self-loathing. However, she is capable of self-loathing. For example,

proposed to Reiner Braun and Bertolt Hoover to approach one of the men of the Fritz family and marry her for the sake of their mission. [ 28 ] He also claimed to be as selfish as the Marleyan government.

Annie is very focused on her mission as a Warrior, to the point that she is willing to kill to achieve her goal, though she is somewhat hesitant to kill former comrades and sheds tears when she fails to capture Eren. [ 38 ] Though she seems indifferent to her ability as a hand-to-hand combatant, she remains proud of her skills and seems to enjoy the idea of fighting. [ 39 ] The only time she is seen genuinely smiling is when she expresses a curious interest in teaching Eren how to fight in her unique style.

However, what drives Annie the most is her desire for a normal life. Though she holds no affection for Marley, the only reason she is so focused on her mission is that it would allow her to return home to her father, and had urged Reiner several times prior to his capture to return to Marley with the information they had gathered so far. Despite her otherwise cynical and realistic worldview, Annie managed to convince herself of the false idea that it would be enough to avoid punishment. [19] [41] When she lost Eren due to Mikasa and Levi's actions in the Titan Forest, Annie saw that the easiest chance of returning to her father was gone and began to visibly cry in her Titan form.

After escaping from her confinement, Annie experiences a significant change in character, becoming more open to working with her former friends to stop the actions of Eren and the Yeagerists. [43] She also openly admits to Hitch that she has committed unforgivable acts, something Annie would normally have kept to herself. [44] Later, as the Wall Titans ravage Marley,

She admits to Armin that she actually appreciated his visit during the four years she was locked in her crystal. Annie also tells him that she sees herself as nothing more than a monster. [ 45 ]

After Annie was born, her blood test revealed that she was a subject of Ymir, suggesting that her mother had had an affair with an Eldian. Though it is unknown what happened to her mother, Annie was deported to an internment zone and later adopted by Leonhart, who was relocated for similar reasons. Her adoptive father intended to train her to become a warrior so she could live a privileged life. Thus, from a young age, Annie underwent rigorous combat training with Leonhart. In time, Annie would become as strong as he desired; but, in revenge for all she had endured, she attacked him, leaving him permanently crippled. The brutal training she endured left her calloused towards others, unable to find value in life or death.

At some point in her childhood, Annie joined the Marleyan military as a warrior candidate, meeting comrades such as Bertolt Hoover, Reiner Braun, and Marcel Galliard. Annie was praised for her impeccable combat skills[47] and was subsequently chosen as one of seven promising candidates to inherit the power of the Titans.[48] She was subsequently granted the power of the Female Titan in recognition of her stellar combat skills.

Along with the rest of their fellow warriors, the six Titans under Marley's command used their powers to crush an entire nation, testing their abilities in the process. The six Warriors proved to be more effective weapons than their predecessors, greatly alleviating Marley's concerns about entrusting the upcoming Operation Paradis Island to children.

Annie was selected as one of the four Warriors to carry out this mission, alongside the Jaw, Armored, and Colossus Titans. [50] The objective of the mission was to attack the Eldians living within the Walls and to lure out and steal the Founding Titan. Before departing Marley to begin Operation Paradis Island, Annie paraded through the streets in a horse-drawn carriage with Reiner, Bertolt, and Marcel, and was recognized as a Warrior for saving the world from the inhabitants of Paradis Island. [51] 51] Around this time, Leonhart apologized to Annie. Finally seeing her as his true daughter, he regretted making her a Warrior and begged her to promise to return home. [52][46]

After reaching the border of Paradis Island, Magath gave a final report to the warriors before they departed for the Walls on horseback.

Of the members of the 104th Training Corps, Annie is one of the strongest fighters, along with Mikasa and Eren. She was ranked in the top 5 of the trainees (reaching 4th), signifying some skill in various forms of military combat. Although ranked 4th, she is usually portrayed as being on par with Mikasa in combat. Her lower placement was likely due to a combination of her carelessness and lack of seriousness, as well as her nighttime reconnaissance work as part of Operation Paradise Island. Despite her impressive skills, she seemed to be outclassed by Kenny Ackerman: not only did he manage to sneak up behind her without her noticing, but he also dodged her kick with apparent ease. [128] The fact that Annie decided to immediately retreat into the sewers is further evidence that she was unsure of a victory against him.

Vertical Maneuvering Gear: As her rank indicates, Annie possesses great skill in controlling the Vertical Maneuvering Gear. Using only the gear's blades, she was shown to effortlessly kill a Titan within the Trost District Military Headquarters to aid the soldiers in refueling, and then proceeded to kill another Titan that Connie failed to eliminate. Annie was subsequently also able to use the gear to kill Gunther Schultz.

Martial Arts: Annie is noted for her unique fighting style, which focuses on minimizing the advantage of larger and stronger opponents through kicks, throws, and holds. She claims to have been taught this style by her father, and during their training together, she teaches it to Eren Yeager. Annie retains the same fighting style in her Titan form, as Eren noted in her first battle against the Female Titan. [130]

The power of the titans
Like her Marleyan comrades Bertolt, Marcel, and Reiner, Annie was capable of transforming into a Titan, known as the Female Titan (女型の巨人 Megata no Kyojin). Her Titan form stood at 14 meters tall, the third shortest, being rivaled by the 4 meter tall Chariot Titan and the 5 meter tall Jaw Titan. As a Female Titan, Annie was able to easily overpower veteran members of the Survey Corps and wiped out several squads in Erwin's specialized scouting formations. Annie acquired her Titan powers while a Warrior Candidate in Marley, and was trained in their use by the Marleyan military and her father. [132][40] During the 57th Survey Corps Expedition Beyond the Walls, she was far more experienced in using her Titan form compared to Eren, who had only recently discovered his Titan powers. She was one of the most skilled of the Nine Titans, possessing a variety of presumably acquired special powers and abilities, some of which were not exhibited by others with Titan powers. Marleyan officers noted during Annie's training that she exceeded all of their expectations.

Regeneration: In her Titan form, Annie was capable of healing any wound and even regenerating any part of her body that had been lost in combat. However, she took this ability to a new level, being able to focus it on certain parts of her body, healing the selected wounds at a much faster rate, as opposed to the automatic and simultaneous regeneration of all damaged parts. This has proven useful in combat, as shown when Annie decided to regenerate only one eye in order to see the approaching Special Operations Squad and defeat them, taking advantage of the moment of surprise.

Annie uses her hardening ability offensively
Crystallization: Annie had the ability to harden parts of her skin at will, somewhat similar to the Armored Titan's ability as stated by Erwin. However, unlike the Armored Titan, Annie's hardened skin could not be maintained for extended periods as it would splinter if hit. Annie employed this ability in various situations for various effects. The armor was hard enough that soldiers' swords could not pierce through it and thus Annie could effectively defend herself against any attacks, even those coming from Eren in his Titan form. She also used this ability for destructive attacks, being able to severely damage Eren's Titan body by hardening his fists or legs. [135] In this way, she also avoided hurting herself unlike Eren, who easily lost even entire limbs after performing attacks in his Titan form. After being captured and extracted, Annie used this ability to generate an incredibly durable crystal cocoon to trap herself and avoid interrogation, similar to the Warhammer Titan's structural hardening ability.

High Mobility and Stamina: In her Titan form, Annie possessed great mobility and stamina,[132] unlike most human-controlled Titans, who were less fast than her and would tire to the point of collapsing. During the 57th Expedition, she was able to run long distances while fighting off many soldiers and the Attack Titan. Additionally, after escaping the Survey Corps' trap, she was able to transform a second time without a long recovery period.

Adaptation: As a Female Titan, Annie was able to adopt parts of other Titans and manifest their abilities easily.

Mikasa Ackerman (ミカサ・アッカーマン, Mikasa Akkāman?) is the adoptive sister of Eren Jaeger. She owes him a lot, since he saved her from kidnappers who intended to make her a slave, and spends most of their time together. Thus, although she sometimes disagrees with what he does, she protects him from anyone who tries to harm him. She, along with Armin, joins the Survey Corps to help Eren retake Wall Maria. She is considered a military genius and was ranked first in her class during the 104th Cycle Recruit Troop graduation.

Mikasa is physically strong, her eyes are large and their irises are a dark gray (almost black) tone, her hair is jet black and has a lock that crosses her face. At first she had long hair, but Eren told her to cut it, since according to him it would be a hindrance during training, so Mikasa agreed to cut it (apparently Jean liked Mikasa's hair but when he saw that she would cut it just because Eren told her to, he began to resent him). Mikasa is 1.70 meters tall, her eyes seem to be in a permanent state of calm and serenity. She has a scar from a cut on her left cheek, made when Eren (being transformed into a Titan) without control of his actions, attacked her.

She is always seen wearing the standard Survey Corps uniform and wears a black scarf (red in the anime), a gift Eren gave her the day he met her, so this item is very precious to her. She never takes this scarf off, except on hot days. When not on duty, she usually wears simple dresses and doll-like shoes.

In the four years since the discovery of the information in the Jaeger house's basement, Mikasa has developed into a young adult woman, becoming taller and with a more developed and slender figure. Her hair is now shorter, showing more of her scar. She wears the new black Survey Corps uniform and later adds a white shirt that she wore over her uniform.

After the events of the Battle of Heaven and Earth, Mikasa grows her hair back, tying it back in a mid-length ponytail. She also wears simpler peasant clothes and still often carries the scarf Eren gave her, as a sign that she'll never forget him.

Mikasa Ackerman's personality changed drastically after her parents' murder, becoming quite reserved. When her past is revealed, it is seen that Mikasa, before the tragedy, used to be a cheerful girl. However, she gives her all for the people she cares about, seeing them as family. She has a strong sense of justice, but she will always follow and obey Eren and try to keep him safe. For example, when he told her her hair was too long, she immediately cut it off, despite Jean commenting that she looked beautiful just the way she had it; Or when she threatened the soldiers who tried to execute him and relentlessly attacked the Female Titan when she captured him. Despite her loyalty to Eren, she is very sensible; when she thought Eren had died, she focused on keeping everyone else alive and not giving in to her grief, despite that, deep down she felt very bad and wanted to give up. In Chapter 50, when a Titan is about to

of killing her and Eren, she gives up, although Eren finally managed to save her life, so it can be said that in extreme situations she usually gives up.

It's also important to mention that much of her personality is defined by Eren, who encouraged her to always keep fighting and never give up on anything.

Mikasa also has a habit of blushing or expressing embarrassment when others make certain assumptions about her relationship with Eren. For example, her blushing when he revealed that no matter which division Eren went to, she would still accompany him and go to the same one he did; her never taking off the scarf he gave her when they were children; her reaction when she saw that Eren was the Titan that kept her and the entire squad alive; or in Chapter 12, when Squadron Leader Ian Dietrich orders her to "Defend your boyfriend" causing Mikasa to blush saying that they were just siblings.

Due to the need to protect Eren, who often ran off looking for trouble, Mikasa had honed her skills to be a talented fighter at a very young age, often throwing older boys around with ease, thus gaining her reputation. An example of this is when Armin was being bullied and Eren came to his rescue. The boys prepared to grab Eren and beat him up, but as soon as they saw Mikasa behind him, they quickly ran away, despite being outnumbered by the bullies. She is strong enough to lift Eren effortlessly.

While in training, Keith still notes that Mikasa's performance is exemplary in all matters, and that she is truly a genius. She combines her great strength with her prodigious skill in 3D Maneuvers, being able to easily take on Titans with speed and efficiency. This has led to her being referred to as a military genius many times and that she has the "courage of a hundred privates" according to Ian Dietrich. These prodigious abilities, coupled with her own extraordinary and lethal will, she displays when fighting Titans, a display rarely seen among soldiers, both recruits and veterans alike. This was demonstrated when she attempted to stop Annie in her Titan form, who had killed numerous veterans with ease, managing to survive, albeit to no avail.

Parents
Growing up in an environment that limited her interaction with anyone other than her parents and Doctor Jaeger, she developed a strong bond with them, seeing them as the only thing she had in the world. She, her father, and her mother were very happy together. When unscrupulous men attacked and killed her father and mother, that feeling was taken away from her, a feeling she would later regain with Eren and the Jaeger family. In the OVA Lost Girls, she is seen living very happily with her parents, and her mother was expecting a baby.

Grisha Jaeger
Grisha adopts Mikasa as his daughter and treats her with kindness and respect. He wants Mikasa to be Eren's friend and cooperate with him.

Carla Jaeger
Carla adopts Mikasa and treats her like her daughter and family, taking care of her. Since Mikasa is calm and not reckless like Eren, Carla wants her to take care of Eren and his reckless behavior.

Eren Jaeger
Mikasa considers Eren one of her "family" as he saved her from the kidnappers. She always wears a scarf, given to her by Eren when he saved her, and keeps it as a token of affection for Eren for saving her at the time. She derives her strength from Eren, as she will go to extremes to protect him and bail him out if necessary. During her teenage years, Eren becomes annoyed whenever she becomes overly protective of him and tells her not to treat him like he is her "son or little brother". During the recapture of Trost District, Mikasa blushed when Ian questions if Eren was her boyfriend, even Levi is confused about her attachment to Eren. She also joined the Survey Corps to shadow Eren. After Dina Fritz's Pure Titan devoured Hanes, Eren goes into a meltdown over not achieving anything and Mikasa thanks him for giving her a reason to live after rescuing her and putting the scarf on him. Eren, before accidentally activating the power of the

Coordinated when facing the Titan who murdered her mother, she promises Mikasa that she will "put the scarf on her as many times as necessary forever" and fights to protect her. Their feelings evolve into a romantic one, however, Eren's destiny and duty never allowed for a direct romantic relationship between them. He says goodbye to her in an alternate reality where instead of telling Eren that she was his family while in Marley (after he asked her what he means to her), she confessed her feelings to him and they ran away together to a cabin in Paradis, away from everything to spend the 4 years that Eren had left of his life together. Eren hugs Mikasa asking her that once he dies, she forget him and be free and happy, to which Mikasa replies that she could not do that. Mikasa decapitates Eren and kisses him, thus stopping the Rumbling and freeing The Founder Ymir from her burden. Mikasa buries Eren on the hill next to the tree they used to spend time under as children. Three years later, when the rest of the kids return to Paradis, Mikasa tells him they'll all be visiting him soon. She then wishes she could see him again, and while crying, her scarf comes loose. A bird swoops down, tucks the scarf back in, and takes flight. Mikasa understands and thanks Eren for putting the scarf back on her.

Armin Arlert
Mikasa is a very close friend of Armin and essential due to his friendship with Eren. She recognizes his reasoning ability to make the best decision and strategy in extreme situations. She is loyal to Armin and trusts him deeply, as shown when she refuses to let him die in the Battle of Trost District. Mikasa cares about Armin's well-being, and like Eren, she used to defend him from local bullies. She encourages him to be more confident whenever he doubts or criticizes himself. She and Eren are responsible for Armin's encouragement.

Armin and giving him confidence in situations like when he tries to confront a group of soldiers to convince them of Eren's value as a military weapon.

Levi Ackerman
Their relationship started on a negative note, as she was upset that Levi beat Eren at the military trial, despite it being the only way she could have helped him. Their relationship seemed to improve somewhat when they teamed up to defeat the Female Titan, and she felt guilty that Levi injured his ankle during the fight against her. Things between the two reached a tense point during the operation in the Shiganshina district, when Levi chose to use the Titan serum to save Erwin Smith and thus let Armin die. Mikasa challenged him for making that choice, even going so far as to knock him down to steal the liquid. The two have been shown to work very well as a team, as they were able to simultaneously kill several members of the Anti-Human Suppression Squad at the Reiss Chapel without complications.

Jean Kirstein
From the moment he laid eyes on Mikasa, Jean has harbored romantic feelings for her, admiring her black hair and abilities, though Mikasa tends to remain more or less indifferent towards him. During casual conversation, Jean is prone to blushing and stuttering in front of Mikasa, though this proved no help when she immediately jumped to her rescue when a Titan threatened her. Despite this, Jean is not swayed by his feelings beyond his hatred for Mikasa's devotion to Eren, stating that other people do not share her willingness to throw their lives away for him. It is this same devotion that partially fuels his resentment towards Eren.

Hannes
Mikasa is said to have thanked him for rescuing her and Eren from the Titan that nearly devoured them when they were children. Despite Hannes admitting that he was afraid to face the Titan, neither of them holds a grudge against him for not rescuing Carla. He is one of the few people with whom she shares happy memories; he also encouraged her to never give up or give in. When she was critically injured, he protected both her and Eren from the same Titan that devoured their mother, only to be brutally devoured by it himself. Mikasa seemed distraught over his loss.

He has also proven to be an organized and successful team player, with everyone agreeing that he should be their leader. They trust that his decisions and drive can lead them to victory.
