Sodapop Curtis is a supporting character in The Outsiders, a coming of age novel by S.E. Hinton. He is the middle child of three brothers, younger than Darrel and older than Ponyboy. Sodapop is described as: Energetic Disinterested in school Movie-star handsome Having silky, dark gold hair Sodapop dropped out of school in his sophomore year to work at a local gas station. He did this to provide for his brothers after their parents died in a car crash. Sodapop is a peacemaker who values his brothers and peace. He can't stand it when his brothers fight, and it makes him feel like he's being torn in two. He is brave to express what he has endured to his brothers and to bond his family together. Sodapop is portrayed from the perspective of Ponyboy, the protagonist and narrator of the novel. Ponyboy describes his idolization of Sodapop from the very beginning. He says his brother “gets drunk on just plain living,” a quality he deeply admires. Sodapop was born on October 8, 1949.
