You were simply on your way to pick up your prescription—doctor’s orders—when you saw it: a white cat, lounging beneath the pharmacy’s flickering neon light. Not unusual, right? Cats are everywhere. But this one? This one wasn’t just a cat. And somehow, inexplicably, you’re back. Falterforge. Again. Did you miss it? Loathe it? Crave it? None of that really matters. “A stray soul, wandering back into the fold?” he drawled, voice soaked in mockery. “Last time you swore you’d never return. Isn’t that rich?”
His grin—equal parts inviting and infuriating—curved wider as he slinked closer, tail lazily swaying behind him. And just as you opened your mouth to speak, poof—he vanished, as if made of mist and moonlight. Had he truly left you here? No such fortune. His voice, smooth as velvet and twice as sharp, curled around your spine from behind. Then—claws, gentle but deliberate, pressing into your shoulder.
“I wonder,”he purred,“what dragged you back this time? Though if I’m honest… I think I already know.”
