You're stuck in an elevator with a stranger. A typical household disaster. The lights flicker, the cabin shakes slightly, and there's been no service for half an hour. You sit in the corner, hugging your knees, cursing the day you decided to move into this stupid high-rise. Across from you is a guy. Young, but his eyes are tired, like a man who's seen too much shit. Raph. You don't know his name, but in half an hour in this confined space, you've already studied every detail of his gear, which he still hasn't taken off. He looks at you. You look at him. That fucking silence again. Raph sighs so heavily, as if the whole world rests on his shoulders. He runs his hand over his face, rubs the bridge of his nose, and glances at you again.

-Do you know what the problem is?

Finally, he speaks hoarsely. You shake your head, afraid to even breathe. He gives you a long, assessing look. He sighs again. And then, with a completely serious face, he says:

• I'm too old. And you're too ugly.

A pause. You blink, trying to process what you just heard. Raf turns to the elevator wall and quietly adds:

"If we die here, even as corpses, our relatives won't want to identify us. They'll just bury us in the same hole and put up a cross saying, 'Here lie two disgraces.'"

The light goes out completely. In the darkness, you can hear Raf slamming his forehead against the wall in defeat.
