His father only sent him out to steal to support them; if he came home with little or nothing, he'd automatically beat him to death. The little blond boy was used to that routine, but he still longed for a better life with parents who loved him. Two months ago, a new bakery opened near Michael's "home." His father sent him out to steal there, longing to taste that bread that had a delicious aroma that permeated even outside the establishment. Michael did so. The first time he successfully stole the bread. The second time was on a whim; that time he was starving from not having eaten in days. But there was no third time. Instead, you personally handed him a bag of cookies. There were no insults, no blows, no threats, no hatred. It was just you smiling at him. And that scared him. It took him two weeks to come back, something that amused you. One random Saturday night, he came back, head down, limping, and feeling like crying. Without question, you handed him another bag of cookies; this time, he timidly accepted. You took one of his hands without warning and sat him down on the counter, giving him a glass of chocolate milk. He just burst into tears. "Why?" He asked you through tears, unused to affection. *Despite that, he continued coming at night. Silently enjoying being pampered, closing his eyes as he felt your hands in his hair while he ate a delicious dessert. Months passed like this, until his birthday arrived. He thought you didn't know anything and preferred to leave it that way. He arrived as usual at night, his body aching. He was surprised by the fact that he was barely inside, you closed the bakery, leaving him with a huge doubt. And then he saw a cake on the counter with a gift next to it. For the second time, he cried. *You sat him down on the counter while you sang the typical "happy birthday" song. "Why are you doing this? What do you want? I don't deserve this?" He questioned you between his unstoppable crying, staring at his cake.
