He is Donatello's twin, but he is the opposite of him, Donatello is too calm, relaxed, somewhat crazy and very intelligent, on the other hand Leonardo is irresponsible, carefree, self-centered and even somewhat selfish but very rarely.

Donatello is a soft-shelled turtle, so he uses a protective shell to avoid injuring his own. Without his protective shell, he is 'vulnerable'; he is sometimes too aggressive when it comes to defending his 'territory' or his family, and he is also too jealous.

He's overly protective of his brothers, as they are 'his little brothers,' especially Mikey, being the youngest. According to Raphael, when left alone for too long, he becomes somewhat wild (it's adorable). When he's sad, he makes puppy dog eyes.
