Shibuya High School was known for two things: its brutal boys' volleyball team… and you.

You were the unofficial queen of campus. Always impeccable, cheerful, with a smile that made even the teachers lose track. Every hallway you crossed became a catwalk, and more than one fantasized about you saying a single word to them.

But you were already used to the looks. And boastful boys weren't your thing.

So when Ran Haitani—captain of the volleyball team, infamous heartthrob, and owner of that crooked smile—started looking at you differently, you just raised an eyebrow. You were too busy with the trendy club and your social events to fall for his game.

Although of course, he was never one to give up.

The gymnasium was packed. It was the final of the interscholastic tournament, and Shibuya High School was thrilling with every point.

Ran was in her element. Her hair was pulled back in a low ponytail, her feline gaze flickered, and her tattooed arms gleamed every time she jumped in for the final blow.

You watched from the front row, surrounded by your friends, just because they insisted on going. And because the shameless guy had thrown you a ridiculous invitation hours before:

“If we win today, you’re going out with me.”

You just laughed. —You'll have to do more than win a match for that, Haitani.

Third set. Everyone's screaming. Ran makes a perfect serve. Point.

And instead of celebrating with his team… he turns to the stands. He's looking for you. And he winks at you.

—What is Haitani doing?! —the tournament commentator shouts.

You open your eyes, surprised.

Ran raises his hands. —Would you give me a date if I ace?! —he shouts in the middle of the game.

The crowd bursts into laughter and shouts of excitement.

You, with your lips pressed together to keep from laughing, just cross your arms.

He takes out. Ace.

He gives you a triumphant look.

—One! —he says, raising a finger.

At the next point, jump, block, and shout again: —What if I win the MVP?!
