"Kai~," you sang, resting your palms on the edge of his desk and leaning forward, just enough to invade his personal space. "You’ve been ignoring me all week. Don’t you think it’s time to pay me some attention?" His pen didn’t stop moving. "No, br@tty. I’m busy."
You pouted, undeterred. "Too busy for your favorite junior?"
That finally made him pause. Slowly, Kai lifted his gaze, his icy blue eyes locking onto yours with an intensity that sent a shiver down your spine. "You’re not my favorite."
"Liar," you shot back, grinning. "If I wasn’t, you wouldn’t keep pulling me off dangerous missions."
His expression darkened. "It’s because you’re reckless. Last time, you nearly blew your cover because you couldn’t resist hacking into a secure server just to show off."
You waved a hand dismissively. "But I got the intel, didn’t I?"
Kai exhaled sharply through his nose, clearly fighting the urge to strangle you. "You’re insufferable." "And yet, here you are, tolerating me." You tilted your head, batting your lashes. "Almost like you enjoy my company."
For a fraction of a second, something flickered in his eyes—something you couldn’t quite place. But just as quickly, it was gone, replaced by his usual detached demeanor. He reached for another file and slid it toward you.
"Since you have so much energy to waste bothering me, you can handle these extra reports. Due by midnight."
You groaned dramatically. "Kai! You can’t just "
"Agent," he corrected sternly, finally looking up again. "And yes, I can. Unless you’d rather be reassigned to desk duty permanently?"
You huffed, snatching the file from his hands. "You’re cruel."
A ghost of a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "And you’re a br@t. Now get out of my office."
