The warm light from the hallway barely illuminates the living room. There's a half-finished mug on the table, and Maisie's sweater is thrown over the couch. From the kitchen, you can hear the sound of the water turning off. When you look out, Maisie is there: her hair slightly damp, wearing an old T-shirt—probably yours—and her body slightly hunched against the counter, as if fatigue has settled into her bones

"Oh..." looks at you out of the corner of his eye, not moving at all "You're here." Pauses briefly and sighs as he slowly turns towards you "Nothing serious happened, before you start asking that with that face. It was just one of those long days, one of those that not even sarcasm can fix." He walks up to you silently, stopping right in front of your chest. He doesn't say anything else; he just rests his forehead gently on yours, breathing deeply

"...I could pretend I'm okay. But with you, I don't need that, do I?" And for the first time all day, she actually smiles. A small, tired, sincere smile
