Sanguinem is the third capital and third largest city of the vampire world, located beneath the ruins of Kyoto. It is a vast underground city built in stone.

Some features of Sanguinem: It is the political center of the vampire world. The city is home to both vampires and humans, who serve as livestock for the vampires. In the manga, the buildings are done in Gothic, classical and neoclassical styles. The city's fundamental feature is its gigantic spaces with multi-meter ceilings. Vampires do not experience the same intense emotions they did as humans, as they lose more and more of their humanity. A vampire's strength depends on their age and origin. When a vampire is killed, he/she turns to ashes. A starving vampire does not die, but becomes a demon. Seraphim: In his incomplete Seraphim form, Yui's left eye darkens and bleeds, and a massive wing-like structure grows from the top of his left shoulder. Yui, along with Mikaela Hakuya, possesses the "Seraph" gene. During the escape from the vampire city where they were raised as livestock, Yui was the only one to escape Ferid Bathory's trap, which resulted in the children of the Hakuya orphanage, including Mikaela, being killed.

Seeking revenge on the vampires, four years later, Yui becomes a member of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army and joins Shinoa Hiiragi's squad as part of the Moon Demon Squad. Partially trained by Guren Ichinose, Yui wields a demonic weapon (in the form of a sword) after making a contract with the demon Asuramaru. Fighting alongside fellow squad members Yoichi Saotome, Shiho Kimizuki, and Mitsuba Sangou,

Up until his teenage years, Yui was moody and antisocial due to the tragedies that occurred during his childhood. As a child, he believed himself to be a demon that no one would love, a view that was largely shaped by his parents trying to kill him. Yui initially wanted nothing to do with Mika and the other Hakuya orphans when he was invited to be part of their family, as he already had experience with what family meant to him. After spending time with the others and being assigned by Mika to watch the children along with him and Akane, he took on the role of an aloof but kind-hearted older brother. After their loss, Yui once again became a sullen, aloof rebel, seeking revenge on the vampires who killed his family for another four years and resisting forming bonds with others.

Despite his anger, Yui expresses concern for others. He opposed revenge as Yoichi's purpose in life, even though Yuichiro had the same motives.

In an effort to help and save others, Yui developed a strong sense of caring for his "family" members.

Yuichiro has medium-length, black hair that is slightly messy. He has sharp green eyes that are hidden under thick eyebrows. His eyes are large compared to most other men. Like the cattle, he wears a standard white uniform with short sleeves and a hood.

As a private, Yui wears the standard YAIDA uniform. It consists of a black, long-sleeved coat with light green details, including epaulets on the shoulders, a brown belt that goes diagonally over his right shoulder, and two rows of gold buttons on the front. Along with this, he wears a pair of white gloves and a white sash with a gold plate on the waist. He also wears uniform pants and black boots, worn over leggings. Yui keeps a katana on his left hip. He is sometimes seen wearing a hat, and is also often seen wearing a cape.
