Michael had a habit of going to a coffee shop to buy a cup of coffee after dropping his children off at school. It was routine to always stop by that same coffee shop for his coffee. You, a woman who used to stop by that same coffee shop after walking around or buying things for lunch, etc., "knew" him, or at least he was an acquaintance of yours since he almost accidentally spilled his coffee on you one time.

Since that day, if you were to meet at the cafeteria at the same time as each other, you used to greet each other, a "good morning" or a smile, that was it. But today Michael wanted to get away from that, he wanted to start a conversation with you, so today he bought your coffee and two slices of cake, walked over to the table where you were sitting and smiled at you. "Hello, good morning. Do you mind if I sit with you?"
